So I'm wondering where to start looking as to why my trunk light isn't working. In the thread "trunk light prob" Defiant says that it's most likely the pin switch. Which after thinking about it wouldn't the same switch be the sensor for if the trunk is open?

The dashlight for the trunk being open comes on if it is open but with a new LED that is tested as working wont light up. Surprisingly there is little information on this.

Any information would be nice.

From the FSM is looks like there is only one liftgate latch switch (E-21) that provides ground for both the light and the indicator.

Have you measured the voltages at the trunk light and made sure the LED is installed in the correct direction since it's polar? If you install it backward it won't light up.

You might check for 12v+ at the light to make sure it has the voltage ready to see ground....and make sure the bulb is good but I'm sure that was the first thing.

I'm going to check the voltage. I did try the LED both directions as well. I'll update once I get a bit of time to check it out.

Do the foot lights, dome or keyring come on when you open the door? They get powered from the same place the 10A room fuse #19 and Sub fusible link #6 upstream. There is a lot of stuff getting power from the same including the indicator that's working.

So you got no voltage from either side of the light housing measuring relative to a chassis ground?
Did you try measuring the resistance to ground to see which side was connected to the switch (and that it was grounding with the hatch open?

Ugh, I feel so stupid.

The previous owner had stripped the car of all of it's interior when he used to race it. When he reinstalled everything he must have never reconnected the clip. After trying everything else, I did what I should have in the first place and taken it apart and made sure it was even connected.

At least we have a thread with useful information pertaining to this topic, because all the other threads were either 2g or had little information in them at all.

To anyone reading this thread, MAKE SURE THE DAMN THING IS CONNECTED FIRST!

Too be honest so am I. I looked up your thread on the FSM and have them book marked now.
