whats the difference from the tg turbo tranny awd to the 2g awd turbo tranny?? i have a 92 awd can i use the 95 gsx tranny?

Yes you can. I put a 1996 GSX transmission in my 1991 TSI.

More detailed information is on VFAQ.com under "A major, model to model conversion or part swap." in the sub-category, "1gen using 2g parts"

*You need slightly longer bolts for the slave cylinder,
*You have to modify the bolt holes for the starter ON the dust shield in between the block and tranny.
*You have to have a 23 spline transfercase.
*and you must Slightly modify the shift cable holder/mount to tranny.

You may need to slightly modify the splash shield/clutch inspection cover with tin snips as well, I did, not sure why though.

Also a few of the bellhousing bolts dont line up, but the 4 major ones do. but other than that, its a bolt in affair, and from what ive read and can tell, it should be a smoother shifting tranny. Have fun! Tyler.

thanks appreciate the reply i think i might make it alot easier on myself and just find a 1g tranny but thanx for the info.

I'd suggest you Search arround and find out from other people who have owned and driven both, or from more experienced people here to find out if the 2gen tranny has been revised in any way, is stronger, shifts smoother, is longer lasting etc... compared to the 1 gen. Ive heard they are less notchy.

If you already have a 2gen trans, id say go for it. I think people dont do it more because they're more expensive to buy. They're probably lower mileage for one thing, and it really isnt much extra work at all. a little dremmel work, a little hack saw work and a trip to the hardware store for bolts and your done.

My 2cents. Tyler.

yah i posted it becuase i saw a nice 2g tranny on dsmtrader.com but what i really want is a dogbox or shep tranny but i think ill wait a little wile and end up getting one of those down the road just a little pricey for me right now.
