Resolved 1G TPS Resistance

Some one please correct me if I`m wrong but your TPS should read 0.00 when throttle is closed . With the leads going to the negative and positive you say your reading is 4.17 .. Okay .. with that reading slowly increase your throttle ... does your reading get higher and lower as you move the throttle back and forth ...

I'm having a hard time imagining where your measuring.

The test procedure for a 1G TPS has two different processes.

The first to make sure that the TPS is good involves measuring the resistance (3.5 - 6.5 KOhms) across the whole device (pins 1 and 4) and then that the resistance between one end and the wiper (2 and 4) increases smoothly as you rotate it.

The second process is to tap into the connection with the ECU and measure the voltage between pin 2 and ground. While the ECU is on but the engine isn't running, and the throttle closed, you should get 0.5v +- 0.02v. Because there is a range of the total resistance and the ECU's sensor voltage source there isn't a single resistance between pins 2 and 4 that is the correct setting, you have to measure the voltage output.

The 1G ECU reports the actual TPS voltage when using a scantool. It's either in volts (0-5v) or in percentage (0.5v = 10%)

The 2G ECU normalizes the voltage in the result is outputs. Since the 2G TPS had a wide range in the voltages (and resistance to ground) when it's correctly adjusted to where the Idle Position Switch opens, the normalization makes the ECU value consistent across production variances.

What are you trying to diagnose?

I bought a used TB from someone and was just messing with the volt meter. And I noticed when I checked pin 1 and 4 I get 4.17. So I was asking if anyone else has that or of that means anything.
