i have a 1g and i want to swap it to a 2g maf sensor do i need anything but the plugs and the senor i already have the wiring diagrams?

That all depends on your intake, and intercooler piping and how tight of a fit it becomes once the 2g maf is on, but that should be it, if anything you might need a smaller filter. Just make sure you wire your 1g to 2g harness correctly and you should be fine.

its bone stock my maf sensor is bad and the 2g is cheapter to buy and i heard it helps with the power

hey silver bullit, I'm thinking of putting a 2G maf in my 1gb, so its not going to help me at all if I don't have a tuning device? Will they fry the stock 1G injectors? I thought the 2G maf was an bolt on sorta thing for the 1G.

You thought incorrectly. A tuning device is required to put a 2G MAF on a 1G. You have to correct for all the extra air that the 2G MAF flows at the same counts as a 1G MAF.

You could try running 550's with the 2g mass.I had good results.

That's still a tuning device. Not a very good one, but your putting the 550cc injectors to adjust for some of the extra air the 2G MAF flows.

I would'nt say bigger injecters are a tuning device but they will more than compensate for a 2g mass
In fact thats exactly what your doing, tuning the car by compensating for a 2g mass with the bigger injectors. Since it was clear that it didn't occur to you that injectors can be tuning devices I pointed out that they would be here.

It's a matter of flexibility and scale. If you have some other tuning device like an AFPR or AFC then you could tune by changing the fuel pressure or by changing the airflow signal. In this case, the injectors are only tuning the car close enough to make it drivable and not melt anything.

So in your opinion ,any kind of bolt on is a tuning device?A "tuning device" in my humble opinion is something that will allow changes at least to A /F ratio on the fly.

Whatever, I was pretty general but that quite that general.

Under your description a chip burned for a setup isn't a tuning device since you can't change the AFR on the fly. For that matter DSMLink or a standalone isn't when you don't have a laptop in the car. Perhaps your view is a little too narrow.

I do believe we have answered the question.

The 550 injectors with the 2g maf balances each other out. 2g maf more air, 550 more fuel they compliment themselves nicely.

However you still need tuning device of sorts.

But hey dont use them and blow your motor up then you can buy a motor off me later.

If you are going to make the 1g to 2g MAF plug adapter, you will need a soldering iron, some solder, some flux and maybe some shrink wrap.

You will need a new intake that will fit a 2g MAF on the end of it, I am about to use a stock 2g intake to put mine on. I hope it fits with the UIP (upper intercooler pipe) in the way. It's going to be close.

and you have to get a 2g filter, so the filter will fit the end of the 2g MAF. Or you can get the adapter plate that allows you to use the 1g K&N filter.

and like everyone else has said, tuning device, or you can try to use 550 injectors to compensate and then get a tuning device later, it will work but your car will not run right, it will be running rich, and it will knock like crazy. I put a 2g MAF setup on my 1g with the evo 560cc injectors with no tuning device and it ran, but not very good. Anything over 10psi, I was seeing 20ct - 35ct of knock :notgood: Anything over 5psi I was seeing like 5ct -10ct of knock, especially in 5th gear. :notgood: Also, anytime after the car is warm, when pushing in the clutch and applying the brake to come to a stop the car would sometimes die. If you let it idle too long it would die.

So, I ended up putting my 450cc injectors back in until I get a tunning device. :toobad:

I have a friend who did the 2g MAF setup with 560cc evo injectors and AFPR (@ stock pressure) with a Walbro 255 with no tuning device and his car ran pretty good. He did not have the same symptoms as mine did. I have a 255 just sitting in my tool box, but I cant get the fuel line bolt to break loose to get the sending unit out. I tried to do it at the same time I installed my 560cc but couldn't get that stupid bolt loose.

Im a 2G guy but my brother recently picked up a 1G and the maf was bad, So since I am a 2g guy I had a Maf laying around that I threw in the car. Could I simply throw on my stock FPR on his 1g and be ready to roll?

No. You'll need more than the slight increase in fuel provided by the higher base pressure used on a 2G to make up for the change in airflow from the 2G MAF.

ok could i compensate the 2g maf with stock 2g injectors? also with that setup what boost could i run?

No, the 2G injectors are the same size as the 1G injectors.

One more time, hopefully the last time. :sosad:

If you want to run a 2G MAF on a 1G you need a SAFC or a chip with the MAF corrections burned into it to tune the car. The 550cc hack is just that, a hack that leaves with with a poorly tuned car. It's stuff we used to do back in the days when we didn't know better. (Or didn't have any other options.) I'm an original owner and I've been around from pretty much the beginning so I know.
