I just put new plugs in today. I read that .28 is the best overall gap. I got the NGK coppers I know they're the correct ones just forgot the name. They came pre gapped at like .36 so I tried to get them as close to .28 as I could. They're probably about .26-28. Now, the NGKs that were in the car were gapped at like .35 ish.

I noticed though that when my car is idling it almost feels like it might be randomly missing a few times a minute. And when I rev it real high, when the RPMs come down it sounds different then before. Like they're not coming down "smooth". And I can just sit there and kinda feel the car jerk just slightly when I'm hearing it miss. I don't remember it doing this before with the old plugs but they were gapped a little wide.

Should I pull the new ones out and open the gap a little?

Yeah everything is good. I'm gonna gap them wider. But would .2 or .3 more of a closed gap really cause this? I mean obviously it is but it sucks. I hate gapping plugs

Fixed it. I guess I gapped one too small. It was at .23. But I put them all at .30 just to be safe.

Its always the little stuff. I changed the vc gasket yesterday(at night) and because of it I missed putting in the half moon seal and covered my engine bay in oil LOL.
Always better to take your time and do it right the first time

I noticed the same thing about mine too. I gaped them a .28 and it seemed like it was having a slight miss at idle like you said. And so I did the same thing you did and put them at .30 and it seems to idle smoother, but I could defiantly see if that one you had was that much off that you would notice it more. I read somewhere, and by no means qoute me on this but supposable you want to gap closer (.28) if you running higher boost so the amount of aif/fuel mixture doesn't blow out the spark, but they did mention you would lose smooth idle. and other have gone as far as .37 whether this was a mistake idkn, but I know mine runs best at .30 :thumb:

Yeah I was gonna leave them at .28 but I figured .30 was right in the middle so I did that. I only let it idle after all this. Haven't driven it yet but it idles great. When they were at .28 I felt a little more power over the old ones which were at .35 ish LOL

i run e85 and 30psi my plug gap is at .18, its the only way i can stop missfiring at high rpm's . it idles perfect.

Thanks for posting this, I had been running a .25 gap @ 24psi and didn't have any issues, I've been experiencing a light misfire in the higher RPM's once I turned the boost up to 30-31psi. I re-gapped them for .20 and am still having an issue, I'll try .18 to see if that helps any.

I'm waiting for the UPS truck today to arrive with my new NGK BPR8ES and NGK wires. I've got a SCM6152 and I run about 22 psi boost while still getting my tune dialed in. What is the recommended gap for that if I'm shooting for 500AWHP?

I think my last plugs were gapped at .026 does that sound right? I'm battling misfires right now, so I regapped to .028 on the old plugs I have right now but I am still misfiring around 2-3k rpms. I know most say .028 but is that for stock cars only or does that also include high boost drag/dd cars?

I was only experiencing misfiring at high rpm under full boost (spark blowing out) and I closed the gap to .020 and don't run a protruding plug anymore (BR8ES) and It solved all of my issues.

Also, j/w, why don't you just go to NAPA or AutoZone to get your plugs?

If you're blowing out, switch to non-projected plugs BR8ES since the very high compression has a tendency to blow out the spark on a projected plug since the spark is located almost in the middle of the chamber where the compression is the greatest.

With the spark from a non projected plug, being higher in the chamber, the spark is less prone for blowout issues.

That way, you can gap the .028 requirement and should have better results.

Well I'm sure that works for you. But my car is all stock on stock boost.
Same here, but I cheat: I use BPR6EY (grooved electrode) plugs so the spark isn't squished and gives a bit more bump ... and gapped at .028

Good luck-DSM

My local napa doesn't stock them, would have to be ordered and would cost More. AutoZone is 45
Minutes away :(. I fixed a boost leak and i guess no more misfire. I'm gapped to .026

What coils are you guys running that you can gap a plug anywhere near a quarter of an inch? :p

This is borderline misinformation guys. Especially when you knowingly repeat the error so many times. New members might not realize that you're omitting a zero. This is a pet peeve of mine and I could have easily been convinced to issue negative rep for each of these posts. Please fix this in the future. When you're talking about plug gaps, there's a big difference between 0.028" and 0.28".

Haha it's all good. I forget sometimes if there's a 0 or not

..and tell them the NT's uses .044 gap plugs.

There were ignitions, esp from GM where the plugs DID use a .065 gap.

Ye, it's kinda funny when I see the .28, that I think of a gap less to a quarter inch size.

Have to teach some about decimal....

Just a double check, I'm surprised those came with that big of a gap out of the box. These didn't have a "-11" at the end of the model number did they? If so they're the wrong plug. If not carry on.
