i do realize there is a handling tech forum but i cannot access it due to my probationary membership... i was wondering what everyone's opinion was, as to whether 1G or 2G handle better. i realize they are pratically the same but i was curious as to what others thought.

The 2G front double wishbone setup is FAR superior to the rudimentary Macpherson strut setup on a 1G. Also, the 1G AWD cars have the rear active toe correction system, which was designed to avoid oversteer and promote "safer" handling characteristics, though it really only serves to severely hinder handling performance by maintaining a steady understeering condition during hard cornering.

Being a new member doesn't keep you from reading the handling tech forum, only posting. I'm pretty sure a good read through some of the older posts would have made the need to post a question superfluous.

It's pretty well accepted that the 2G has the potential to be a better handling car.

The 2g's were designed to handle better mostly because the suspension designs back then were just starting to bring better wishbone technology to the public. I've owned a 1g and a 2g and the 2g is more responsive with better control.... just my 2c

Ohh there's no doubt in my mind that 2g's probably handle better..Better technology should equal better handling..But as a 1g owner I like the handling of the 1g..One of these days or years I will own a 2g..

Depends on the mod list and how they are set up. I'll put my 1G up against a stock 2G any day, even with my cheap Prokit/AGX's. :D

But to be fair, I do have other mods that make a big difference.

Stock to stock, you usually have to go with the 2G I think.

stock vs stock is no comparison. double wishbone is more money and the right way to build a front suspension. strut suspensions were originally designed to be a cheap easy room making setup for manufacturers... even modified, a 1g would have a hard time hanging with a stock 2g assuming both cars wear the same tires.

Says the guy with the 2G. LOL :tease:

I'm pretty happy with my car's adjustability and handling, although I do want a good set of coil-overs with adjustable camber plates eventually.

I've discovered that the posted speed limits on exit and entrance ramps are merely suggestions. :D

Haha yes. Even with my old KYBs I could corner completely flat and hold onto corners where I wasn't even in my seat anymore! ROFL!

Cool! thanks for the great info guys! i'm tryin to decide whether to buy a 1GB or a 2G this summer. but i feel like the 2G interior is almost bland... but thats another discussion. LOL

Cramped? You guys need to stop eating so many doughnuts. I think both 1G and 2G cars have a nice amount of space with good visibility. It's the 3G and 4G that I feel more cramped in because of the high center console and the fact you can hardly see out of them.

But back to topic, even though a 2G has a better suspension design the chassis stiffness of a 1G makes it feel tighter and nimble. And if Mitsubishi kept the McPherson design on a 2G we would probably have more aftermarket options.

I am working to get my 2nd 1gb turned into a 1ga. I only bought the 1gb because money is tight and it could be converted to a 1ga. I have the history of the 1g and have been in a 2g spyder and have to say that the front is def a little cramped and the shifter in my opinion for a manual transmission gets way too close to the center instrument panel and radio for my taste. Plus the fact that the 2gs have a smaller stock turbo. If I were to get a 2g it would be for my finacee and then it would be a base model automatic, the horror...
