So I came across a decent deal, hallman pro boost controller and a 2g head for 25 bucks. I needed a real mbc so the head was a bonus.

But the 2g head is bare, so other than one exhaust stud broken I thought not bad.

But the caps were off and they are different styles. I think 1g caps are punched with identification like "E3" while 2g heads are raised or cast numbering. Can anyone verify this for me?

Not sure how much a line hone would be worst case scenario :hmm:

I wouldnt even bother wasting my time with a head that has no caps. Find a head with the origianl caps and save yourself the headache.

it will cost about $100 -$125 per side to have the head align homed

do you have a spare set of cams? if so drop the cams in the head (no followere or HLA's) and try one set of caps.. if you can turn the cam by hand once the caps are torqued to spec you will be fine

they may be the Hayndi caps.. I have seen the L/R on some 4g looking heads

if the caps do fit and the cams spin by hand.. why scrap it?

nope... your just checking the cam bore.....

as long as they spin by hand you will be fine

all this is for is to make sure the cam will not bind up in the head.... you can use plastagauge on all the cam jouranals to check oil clearance
