Is there any difference in the 1G NT and turbo blocks besides the lack of oil squirters and different pistons? I have to do a 6 bolt swap on my 95 TSi that is crankwalking and noticed that the nt and turbo blocks are priced quite a bit different. If I could get a good enough deal on a NT block, I could get pistons and some other goodies, too. I've been planning on spending $1500 for a complete longblock from a Japanese importer by me, but all that money could go to a nice shortblock and I could just use my current 7 bolt head and manifolds. That way, I don't have to cut or change a bunch of stuff either, which would be really nice. If I am to go with a NT block, how hard is it to put in the oil squirters?

the reason turbo blocks are more expensive is because they already have the oil squirters in them. i am going to run a nt block in my tsi, but will be having the squirters put in that first. im not sure on the price yet, the guy at the machine shop is doing right now, along with a bunch of other work

Are the squirters absolutely necessary? Also, my 2G got a rebuild about 10,000 miles ago and go all new pistons and some other stuff. Can i take off those pistons and put them on the NT rods? I'm not even sure if the crank and rods are the same in the NT, but I think I read somewhere that they are.

Well, I just read a bunch of posts about the oil squirters, and it appears that they aren't needed if using a forged piston (according to one of the guys at SBR). I'm thinking now that it would make sense to just get a cheap NT 6 bolt block and put some JE 8.5:1 pistons on the 1G rods for my new bottom end. If that doesn't sound like a good idea, I could get a turbo 6 bolt block for a bit more money and use either my pistons off my 2G or still get the JE's. I've been looking at ebay for some cheap NT blocks and here for the turbo block: http://www.citymotorsupply.com/top50.asp

Any input on what the best course of action would be?

From what I understand, the knock sensor doesn't have an obvious home. However, after looking you should be able to use a boss located off of the #2 cylinder. I have never inspected this personally, just what I've been told.

I would check junkyards for NT blocks. You should have no problem finding a NT, or even Turbo block in a junkyard.

I have a 91 nt block Im using in my 93 awd. now my block have the spot for the knock sensor and it threaded right in. I have heard of nt blocks not being threaded, but I beleive they all have the raised spot where they belong. You would then have to drill/tap it for the sensor. I got lucky
