i have a 1gen and i am put a motor in it outta and awd and i need to know if the motor mount brackets are different for the front and back and if so can i figure out which ones are awd and which ones are fwd

Bringing this up from the dead as I found this thread searching.

I recently bought Vassil's curved one piece crossmember. While installing it I ran into a snag. Turns out I have FWD front and rear motor mount brackets in my AWD. Well my front FWD 346 bracket is bent to hell so fitment isn't there yet. I don't know if it's not fitting due to having FWD front and rear mounts or because of it being bent. Do you guys think if I can get a 347 AWD front bracket it would work bearing in mind I would still have the rear (194 I believe) or do I have to get AWD brackets for both front and back? (which would p*** me off as I just installed the motor in the car and didn't pay attention) :banghead:

thanks

I always suggest using the brackets that belong in the car. It's obviously the easiest, most fool-proof way of getting it right. If you're going to get the AWD front bracket anyway, you'll be able to tell us soon enough if it will work or not.

Before installing the one piece cross member, were you using the FWD brackets? Or is this a new(er) engine and thus the reason for the different brackets?

gotcha...guess the only way to know is to try it out. I'm hoping the fitment issue is with the bent front fwd brackt that was already installed and hoping a awd bracket will fix this.

I was using the fwd brackets without any previous knowledge they were fwd ones. No wonder my avid mounts seemed impossible to install. I'll update after trying it out.

thanks

So does anyone have the numbers that would be needed to go from a 5 speed AWD to a auto AWD?

I know the front and rear are different due to positioning of the motor due to the tranny being larger.

Front Roll mount bracket (bolts to front of block):

#345 NT 5spd and auto trans

Turbo cars:
#346 FWD 5 spd
#347 AWD 5 spd
#595 FWD Auto
#506 AWD Auto

Rear roll mount bracket- (bolts to rear of block) these have an A and B after the number on some:

#193 - NT 5spd and auto

Turbo cars:
#194 FWD 5 spd
#195 AWD 5 spd
#648 FWD Auto
#793 AWD Auto

Will the 345 not work on a turbo fwd? They are both 4g63's. I picked one up for my 92 TSI earlier and it's gonna suck if it don't fit.

My 1993 AWD 5 speed car has (194/345) brackets with the stock AWD trans mount / bracket setup (frame rail 4 bolt mount, and trans bracket), and the AWD motor mounts (the ones that bolt to the actual subframe / front cross member), with no ill effects. (My car has a 6 bolt swapped into it).

Not sure why I don't have a 195 rear bracket or 347 front bracket (but apparently it doesn't matter THAT much, because my car hasn't had an odd failures \ vibrations (knock on wood)...

Going solely off the pictures above, I would ASSume, as long as you have matching BRACKETS (aka 195/347 or 194/346) the trans mounts will line up. I also ASSume, by the pictures, the auto stuff WON'T interchange with the manual stuff. 4g63 non turbo and 4g63 FWD turbo uses the same front subframe (I know this for sure).

Wow all these post on brackets and I'll throw more questions on here. I'm doing manual to auto swap. I thought we traded mounts and everything but that was almost a yr ago. What bracket and mounts do I need for 1g auto trans. I believe I received a 195 bracket for rear. Thx for help.
