i just got my car back after it broke down in july of last year. i tried to save myself some dough by taking it to this guy who SAID that he could do the swap. well, here i am 7 months later with an engine half way in my car and parts all over the place. needless to say, im a little anxious to get my car up a running again. well, ive done some searching about putting a jdm 6bolt into my 97 gst, and ive found that most jdm's have awd flywheels. is there any way to tell this without doing the swap and trying to fire it up and seeing if the starter catches the flywheel? the engine is already half-way in and hooked all up, but i dont want to finish it off without knowing for sure whether or not i have the right flywheel. the engine came with a clutch and flywheel, if that helps. thanks.

most, if not all jdm engines came with awd flywheels because they came out of galants. The fwd flywheel has taller teeth for the starter, so if you have the old flywheel from your gst, compare the two. The gst flywheel should look bigger than the awd.
Good luck with the swap.

so i guess there is really no way to tell if the engine is already bolted to the tranny, and in the car? i have most of the connections already made, i just dont want to finish to find out im gonna have to take it right back out any way. my engine did come from a vr4 galant tho, so what percentage of those have awd flywheels? thanks.

All Galant VR4's came with AWD flywheels. They were an AWD car by design. Your best bet would be to buy an aftermarket FWD flywheel for the motor you are putting in the car.
