im not a buddy wants mine i just wanted to do some research. my master mechanic just told me it wont work

If you wired it, it would def work, but would be a huge downgrade. Absolutely no point in doing it, once a 1g maf comes off from a 1g its pretty much worthless, unless someone is trying to put a car back to stock.
 
The signal between the two is slightly different to the point where if you add a 2G MAS to a 1G car you *should* use a larger injector or something to tune with to offset the difference in signal (the 2G MAS reads leaner than a 1G MAS).

Going backward would mean you'd need smaller injectors to offset the difference in signal (the 1G MAS reads richer than the 2G MAS) and is just an all-around bad idea.
