ok can i wire up a 2g mass air flow sensor up to my 1g talon so i can use an aftermarket airfilter. will it run ok?. If so can u give me a wiring diagram. this maf is so big and can not find a aftermarket filter to fit.
thanks

A 2g maf is great on a 1g, also to match a set of 550cc injectors to boot. There are plenty of filters and adapters you should be able to find, just like us 2g guys use.K&N, injen, and FP is a few to start off with. Not sure about wiring it up someone will shine you in on that.

yea i want to put a turbo on can i use my block just get the turbo set up ecu, harness, manifold,
also im going to put 2.5inch exhaust in u think i should keep the cat or get rid of it. i have no emissions testing

I had a boosted 420a before, it can be real expensive. It's something you need to think and research about what you want to do with it.

Its a 2.0 I would not be messing with a 1.8 I got a 2.2l turbo s10 pushing about 12 psi so I figured I would try to turbo the talon the cheap way. I only got a 100 in the car so im doing pretty good already .so u think I should loose the cat or not

If you were turbo I would say yes but being your not I wouldnt recommend it....

Just a quick fyi also the 2g Maf an 550cc combo isnt gonna work for your N/t as your injectors are only 240cc IIRC Not 450cc like the turbo cars

Youll need a Eprom Ecu with changes made for the extra fuel an differant Airflow sensor to run correctly or Turbo ecu.... also most likely the injectors will be Low impedance an youll need a resistor box to run them

In the end unless you have serious plans to go turbo down the road most of this will be pointless.....

what model cars have the 550 injectors?

Thanks

I dont think that Mitsu's came with 550cc injectors, any model.

We have the evo pink tops rated at 560cc and the 510cc yellow top that came out of the galant and lancer RS.

FIC delphi like injectors are the only ones I know that are rated at 550cc.

Mazda RX7 Turbo uses 550cc injectors, Only two per car, get 4 of them and you will be set.

I had RC550cc injectors and they worked great with the 2G mas, didn't need to go eeprom, just the stock turbo ECU.

Add in 272 cams, a free flowing exhaust, a bigger turbo and a FMIC and that will be more fun then you can handle.

Its works for the most part but the potential of the car With the proper compensation for a dif maf, Injectors deadtimes ect is so much more... .Ie no airflow cap... no fuel cut... proper timing ect...

Why not buy a eprom and have it chipped and socketed? Then do your boost setup, and get yourself a 2g maf and have some fun. Fuel injectors will be based on what turbo he uses anyway since he could easily use a 14g or 16g and ###### use some stockish gsx or tsi injectors. Hell I have a set of stockers from my 91 tsi auto I will sell em for cheap. And once i install my gm afm/maf I will have a 2g maf for sale too.

He can easily find injectors on here, it just depends on the resistance of the injector as to if he will need a box or not. U can get high and low impedance injectors in any size really from the aftermarket. Just depends on his budget and so on.

If your going to try and do it the "cheapest way" then I would suggest finding a wrecked car and get the entire front clip for it with engine, trans and everything you will need. You may be able to piece it together however from the classifieds here too.

Does it matter what year 2g maf you use? I was told to find out the year of the 2g maf and ECU before just sourcing one and slaping it in there. I plan on doing the 2g maf and OBD2 swap on my laser. So if anybody has some inputthat would be great.

All 2g Mafs are a #609 Maf if it says that on it. It's a 2g Maf... There are several other similar Mafs threw the years on other cars.
But, 2g's only came with that particular one from the factory.

Not sure what you mean by ODB II swap.
I would assume you mean putting a ECU from a 95 or 98/99 in a 1g car. If so there is not a lot of info specifically here on it. But a few people that are familiar with the ins and out of it. :)

Exactly what is your reasoning behind it? not turning you away just interested specifically what you where looking to do it for?

Honestly a fellow DSMer recommended it. he tunes a lot of 2g's, and said it would be easier to tune for him when I'm ready to do so. havent seen it done before but I'm sure they are out there... just looking to get some more info, and see if its even worth doing. mind you i'm still kinda learning about tuning, and what to tune with (DSM link v2 with my 1g maf, ECM link, GM maf, or 2g maf to tune with evoscan, or cede mods and so on) dont know which one would be easier to work with.

Out of what you listed... . An not considering there are still a few options

I would Swap in with a Patch harness a 2G Flashed ECU/EVO ECU or Run a Eprom 1g Ecu with ECMlink or... . The best route IMHO is no Maf at all though.

But, Speed density can be a bit more involved. Don't run a 1g maf they are POS's a 2G maf will more then meet your goals for awhile I'm sure.

Tuned both cars here...

Black one I tuned an swapped in a 98/99 Ecu it's running SD as well :thumb:

The other is ECMlink V3 running SD :)

I can't speak for how easy it is to tune for someone else. But it's not that much more involved to use Evoscan/Ecuflash over Link IMO. or a couple other options for 1g's... .

Just seems most people have trouble setting things up that are not familiar with the turn people away from other things besides "link".

I'd just go with what ever fits your budget the best and who ever is tuning it is most comfortable with if it's not going to be you doing so... .They both are Great EMS's but there are quite a few options these days.
