Well As you know Most SMIM are either designed for the 1g head or 2g head well, Problem being Has anyone ever Fit a 1g JM fabrications intake manifold into their 2g ? I have a 6bolt motor i swapped in their long ago... It looks as if the Brake fluid reservoir will need to be raised a tad and my Cruise control will have to go... Aside from getting a smaller battery would this be all that needs to be done? I have one and I was going to put it on after spring break. I was just sorta mocking things up and getting ideas... Let me know if you have seen anyone with a 1g SmiM on their 2g with a 6bolt.... It seems really close to the firewall.... :|

I have that intake on my '93 with 6- bolt so I can't help with the 2g fitment but I had to take a file to the weld on the throttle body flange as the linkage would hit the weld so I just took some off until it cleared. For the battery I just had to lose the battery box and get a narrow battery, 5" wide I believe as after I had the Intake and TB installed I had 6" for a battery.
It was also a tight fit for the cruise and the main harness on the firewall. Had to push the intake against the harness which I had zip tied back as far as I could. Got the intake on an angle under the cruise, pushed, and got it to fit. Mark

I have the 1g JM manifold on my 2g with the 6bolt. It gave me a little trouble getting it in there because of the cruise control box and the brake reservoir. I took out the left bolt on the bracket holding the brake reservoir so it moves the half inch or so on the top for the manifold. I also had to bend a little bit one of my a/c lines to position the manifold. Also the cruise control box(black box) either you lose find a way to move it up an inch or so so the throttle body stuff clears. What i did was i zip tied it to some hard line next to it and that brought it up enough to clear it. Other than that once you have it on the head it shouldn't give you any problems. Good luck if you need pics let me know.

Ps: About the battery your going to need a small one. The one i got was a 99 miata battery from autozone. Works great and gives more than enough cranking power for the car it was like $70 with a 3 year warranty. Also you will need to modify your upper intercooler pipe but am sure you know that already.

so i recently found something out.. you can remove the cruise control on the 2g.. since the POS seem's to get in the way of everthing.. use a non cruise control cable from a rs i beleive.. it fit's up perfecto..

It's actually a non cruise control throttle cable from any 95-99 gs spyder. I just put mine in about a week ago. I too am waiting for a jm fab 1g intake manifold for my 6-bolt, It's actually coming in today (after about 2 weeks of waiting for it). I just decided to put my battery in the truck. I'll post pics after it's completed. Looks like I have too much room now LOL.

I know the manifold moves the TB down from the stock location but does it move it back any farther? If so can you give me an estimation about how far.

I had a 1g JMFab SMIM in my 2g. I had to move the brake fluid reservoir, move the cruise control box, relocate the battery, and customize (cut) my UICP.

It wasn't too hard. One afternoon did it.

I just finished my smim install, pretty straight forward. The brake res. was moved, I had to cut about 2in off of my greddy uicp for it to fit. My Battery was relocated to the trunk, cruise control also removed entirely. The only curveball I ran into was buying some longer coolant lines that run to the throttle bottle. I'll post a picture of mine tonight.

Wow Thank you guys for clearing all this up, I will attempt my install tommorrow.... More pictures would be appreciated. Thanks again...

Sorry for bringing this thread back, But did you notice ALOT of power from the jm SMIM? I am ready to purchase one as it's the only bolt on I have left to buy, But I'm really not sure what one to buy! So please, Be honest.

I think it's moreso going to depend on what turbo you run, how much boost and what rpm you are talking about. Generally a quality smim is a noticeable difference in the higher rpm range.

Well, My mods are in my profile if that matters. I just put in 272's yesterday, And right now the boost is at 20psi, I just put my 850's/ecu/afpr in today so it's running really good. I want to turn the boost up a few more psi though. I heard a SMIM makes a big difference if you have other mods? I'm sure I have enough mods to get a smim and notice a difference, Do you? I know dsmjim shaved alot off his time with only a magnus manifold.

I checked your mods and the only thing I find possibly suspect is the turbo.
I added the JM SMIM this past winter and changed out my HKS 272's for Crower stage 4's. That was probably worth a couple of tenths though I have no hard numbers to substantiate that. 272's have 213* in/out and lifts of .406"/.386". The crowers have 218* in and 216* out with lifts of .425" and .416". With them I lost 2" of vacuum to 10" at 1000rpm idle. This is on a Buschur stage 3 with 6k miles.
I did make 2 changes and the power is MUCH greater but shifting is now done at 8500rpm's and that is where I am not sure your turbo will be abl to keep up and I would say 25psi or more would be best which would require some race fuel added. Remember DSMJIM is racing though he may run pump and I believe he did. Also I have a 1G so higher revs are more natural.
When I first got on it I was frrightened by the power. Even a Buschur stage 3 did not add that much power so quick! I am an AWD car being a '93 Talon and I experienced torque steer! It's wild to run it full throttle. I begin to spool around 4000rpm's and by 5k rpm's I am well on my way to 25psi. The cams begin to power up at this time also and at 6k rpm's the cams, SMIM and turbo(Holset HX-35/40 @ 30psi) all begin to work together and it's time to hang on! This is where I start making the real power. Then it pulls hard to 8500 though I have brought it to 8800 on a 9000 rpm rev limiter. If I keep my revs over 6000 after shifting it's all golden and a wild ride.
Between the cams and SMIM I gained around 6 or 7 mph in the 1/4 mile and I attribute about 2 mph to the cams and 4 or 5 mph to th intake. The only "bad" thing is all SMIM power is over 6000rpm's. Some intake testing done on NABR bears this out with the 1G intake beating all of the SMIM's up until 6100rpm's or so and then the SMIM's take over so if you are willing to buzz the motor up to 8k rpm's at least then I would say go for it.
25psi would be enough and 8k probably would be OK too.Your turbo I am sure has more down lower than mine so it may not be an issue shifting at 8k as you may make power more below 6k than I did but not a lot, remember the intake test, stock 1G beat all in mid range rpm's. Mark

UPDATE.... I've had my SMIM on for a few weeks now plus I had to upgrade to a GM MAFT because I was badly overflowing the stock Maf @ 52lbs a minute.... This SMIM is hands down one of the best mods I have ever put on my talon. Instead of dying off @ 7Krpms this thing pulls insanely hard all the way to 9K. In 2nd gear I break all 4 loose going from a 40mph roll!!! I Can't wait to go to the track No more low 11s for me... I'm waiting on some good tires after those come it will def be in the high 10s @ 130+mph for my daily driver:D

Have you been back to the track yet? I'm debating on whether I should add a SMIM to my modlist in hopes for 10's. I'm revving my motor out to 8k on stock valvetrain and BC 272's as it is. DSMLink reports my max hp around 7000rpm's on the current modlist.
