1G indiglo gauges

Hey, yesterday me and a couple friends hooked up a system in my 2G... Well later that night I went to leave my house, I turned my headlights on, and under the dash (where the hood release is) started smoking. Well i turned everything off, then when i turned everything on again, my cluster would not light up. I assumed we shorted it out and I really dont mind not seeing the cluster at night. I'll get around to checking it out this weekend and see whats up.

I think it might have been my boost gauge light wires. I wired the positive from the "ashtray" LED wire, it comes on when the lights go on, and dims accordingly so I thought it was a good source. Then I grounded another wire. Those wires were hanging in the boost gauge pillar next to each other. IF they touched, that couldve blown the fuse (12v pos+ ground?)

I already did a search to find out where to wire and i think im gonna splice the positive into the dimmer.

Is the voltage going to be okay? I don't want to blow the fuse in the little box for the gauges, you can't replace it once you've done that. Can i just splice the positive wire into the positive wire on the dimmer switch and then just ground the negative to the frame somewhere?

Thanks :talon: 9409

Didn't you get instructions with it?

I can't remember where I connected mine, but It was a yellow or orange wire I think

No instructions at all. The eBay auction said recommended for professional installers, which i'm not a dumbass but i expected a sheet of instructions or at least something. I think i'll just try to wire the posetive into the dimmer switch and see how that works.

Well, if you find out what the yellow or orange wire is for I can tell you which one I connected mine to.

I have 3 wires on my dimmer switch

Green w/ white stripe
Black (ground i think?)
and Black with Yellow Stripe

I just read something on the internet yesterday on which to wire it to but i forgot to bookmark the page and now i can't find it. My guess would be that black with yellow is the one i need yellow being hot?

Probe the wires with a test light. Use the one that comes on with the headlight switch. I don't remember which one I used on my Talon, but you shouldn't have to worry about blowing fuses. The glow gauges don't draw that much.
