Hello i currently have a 2G with a rodknock and I bought a 6 bolt from a 92 GSX to put in it. I am currently tearing it down because i have new pistons and rods and all them goodies. I see online that people take the balance shafts out of the engine. I see them in there but dont understand their purpose....If anyone knows please tell me. Also will it do anything if i take them out with one of the balance shaft removal kits? what are the benifits of doing this?

Also i have most of the engine taken apart, but how do I get the crankshaft gear off and the balance shaft gears to get the front cover off. I am stuck and dont know how to get it off....

Thanks
Michael

I got the crankcase sproket off by removing the oil pan and wedging a thin block of wood between the crank and the mounts so the crank wouldn't turn then just put a big ass breaker bar on the sprocket. If you have a T-belt you're not going to reuse you could wrap that around the balance shaft sprocket and the crankcase sprocket (with the block of wood in place), hold it as tight as you can and use a breaker bar on that sprocket as well. Worked for me.

As for removing the balance shafts, you MUST have an eliminator kit. Period. The benefits of this mod include higher oil pressure to the rest of your engine and one less thing to worry about breaking and destroying your engine. Many engine destructions have been caused by balance shaft failure.

Hope that helps.
