1g Head Swap (Counter weight?)

To do the 1g head swap for a 2g, there are instructions that say to simply cut off the counter weight on the shifter. What would be some resulting side effects from such a hack? I'm sure there are plenty of people who have done this swap and can attest to any side effects that resulted from cutting off the counter weight.

I didn't notice much of a difference at all. It shifts fine.

why do you have to do this? is it beacuse of the route of the lower radiator pipe or what?

Yea if you don't cut the weight it will hit the lower pipe.
