My cousin has a 92 Laser AWD that has a EXTREMELY hard start after it sits. It won't start without the aid of starting fluid. After you get it to start, it runs a little rough but finally smooths out. Starting again after you get it to start once is fine, like there is nothing wrong... It seems like it is losing fuel pressure. I have replaced the pump, injectors, and factory fuel pressure regulator. I have checked the ECU and Injector resistor pack, both are checking okay. Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on what to check next? I am trying to get my hands on a fuel pressure guage to see if it is losing pressure... PLEASE HELP!!!!!:banghead:

Does it only do it when it's hot or cold, or doesn't that matter? Did you do a compression test? Did you check to see if maybe there is an issue with the coil pack getting to hot?

It is a cold start issue... i havent checked the maf yet but i did question it. the temp sensor is internally open but why would that cause a hard start when cold, a dead temp sensor reads -40F that would cause the ecu to dump more fuel wouldn't it?

well there is 2 temp sensors one is for the gauge cluster the other is for your ecm i have the same problem i can crank for hours but the second i give a burst of starter fluid boom its running but it surges on idle sometimes wanting to die out, then clears up. my problem is the wires broke at the connector

well I tested the sensor because it had a check engine light for ECT open circuit. I guess I can throw in that new sensor that we already have LOL and see what it does... thanx for the help guys, I'll be back if it doesn't fix it LOL

when mine went bad it was reading 280 no matter what

ive had the same problems you have when it gets under 15 degrees or so, changed what you have with still no luck, ended up changing the gas i was using and i havent had any problems the last couple weeks, even this morning it was in negative temps and it fired right up first try after sitting 12 hours or so

I had two dumb vacuum leaks.

One of the EGR vacuum hoses had a minute crack where it attaches to the INT manifold. The other down to the temp sensor.

That would make me flood every time I turned the key. Only way to keep it from flooding was to hold the pedal down about half so the cylinders would fill quickly with air and prevent flooding.

I just snipped off the bad and reconnected. No more hard starts.
