Too many tools in the exterior forum so I'll ask the question here. Since you're reading this, I assume you have 17x8 rims with 35 offset. How's the fit and how far do the rims/tires stick out past the fenders? any clearance issues? If you got 18s with same width and offset I guess it's pretty much the same since overall diameter of tire is close enough.

Reason I'm asking... there is a pretty decent deal going on for the Weds Wedssport SA-90 wheels with tires. They look pretty good and appear to have plenty of room for big brakes.

I ran over to the window, to my dismay, pigs weren't flying, and hell hasn't frozen over

Why oh why would paul be interested in an 18 inch wheel?

Dont make me search paul and 18 to find out what paul thinks of 18's, LOL.

j/k OMG

was confused for a second with jtoby

carry on.....

I tahe it you dont agree with the whole 18's kill performance aspect?

Weds Sports makes good wheels ... I'm assuming they're forged, which is why you're considering an 18" rim. Forged 18's are very light, actually as light if not lighter than a cast 17x7.5" +48, which is what I'm running. You might want to consider a lighter tire, too. Proxes T1s' are a good choice.

I think the man you want to ask is Nick (NDGSX). He's got 17x8" Enkei's, and I remember him saying they don't rub with Ecsta MX's in a 245/45(or 40)/17. And even then, there's no problem running spacers, as long as you have longer wheel studs. Aluminum spacers are pretty light. You might have to roll your fenders, though. I hear the body shop around here charges $100 a fender. Or you can buy one off e-Bay for $300 or so.

I'm not interested in running 18s you numbnuts. All I am concerned about where the outter edge of the rim is in relation to the fender with 35 mm offset. Whether the rim is 17" or 18" in diameter makes no difference, because, as noted... if the right size tires are used, the overall diameter of the tire is about the same.

Learn to read. :thumb:

Seriously though, I've learned from the mistakes of others. 18s will not last in San Fran. The roads are in terrible shape. 18s don't look right on 1Gs either.

Yup I have RPO1s in a 38mm offset, they stick out slightly in the front. I haven't had any problems with rubbing the fender, but I'm sitting high on H&Rs right now.
Wait no my car is sitting really high on a lift right now, but that's another story. I swear some day I'll finish my motor.

1Gs have more backspace clearance. The thing you have to worry about is the rear trailing arm and the rim clearance, if that is ever a problem you can grind back the flange on the trailing arm and mig up the hole. Tire clearance to the suspension in the rear is a non issue on 1Gs.

How about a 17x8 +48? I have a choice between 17x8 +48 and 17x8 +35, I figured the +35s would stick out of the fender a little in the front.

Is there sufficient backspacing to run the 17x8 +48s with a 245/40?

I run a 17X8 40 mm offset with no rubbing front/rear. I am currently running smallish 215/45 tires (left over from my 6.5" rim days) though. My replacement set is still up in the air. They will be no smaller than 225/45 and I'm considering going to 245/45.

I have 17x8" BBS Moda M1 wheels (Not sure on the offset I'll grab it in a day or two when I take off the wheels to clean them) on 245/40/17 BFG G-Force KDW-2s and have no issues at all. In fact I love the extra grip the KDWs have provided. I am still on stock springs with KYB GR2s but none the less no problems at all.

P.S. I'll take some profile pics in a few days so you can see how much the tire fills up the whole wheel well.

Did you find your offset yet? How about those profile pics? How low is your car?

I have JIC coilovers on my car and it sits pretty low. Right now I have the 17" GSX wheels on the car and they measure 17x6.5 +46. The fronts are close to being flush with the fender and the rears sit in about an inch. I would like them both flush, so I will need different offsets front and rear, or spacers on the rear. The current wheels do not rub, but they are about as skinny as you can get.

I have a new plan of action to end this stupid question for 1g owners. I am going to take the car up to the alignment shop and take some measurements with the suspension fully loaded and properly aligned. This won't happen for a couple of weeks, but I will let you guys know how it turns out.
