1g fwd to awd conversion please help....

i have a highly modified 1990 tsw awd, but unfortunatly got in a front end collision which resulted in twisting the unibody up pretty bad . myt motor still runs , the tranny is also good, i need to know if its possible to swap drivetrains and suspension to a fwd from my awd. i have allready found a perfect fwd shell, but havent got it , i need to know b4 i get it.

Get up under the back of your AWD. Now go take a peak underneath the back end of your FWD. This should answer your question. That or the search button.

No. I believe there are several write-ups on this but in a nut shell it can't be done.The factory didn't put in the sheet metal bracing and brackets for awd in the fwd models. The conversion can be done but if you can't do it yourself it would probably be cost prohibitive.

perhaps you misread...you will spend more to convert to an awd then you will to buy an awd.....

i recomend you go look under a fwd and an awd and see the difference, then maybe you would understand

or just do a search on this topic, its been discussed and beat into the ground countless times

How do you know? You're not thinking outside the box. Fabricators don't live in a box, so to them nothing in the world has set costs. I made a 4-link rearend for my old roomate's truck out of some Scrap square tube that I got out of a scrap dumpster. Got some extra scrap out of the dumpster for brackets, etc. Welded it up and the only thing it cost was the electric bill to run the welder.

It isn't gonna cost money for a fabricator who might have a spare car laying around like this guy does. I don't have to read on the internet about how things are different, I know how different they are. People are putting LS1's and ford 9" rearends in dsm's for christ sake! converting an AWD to FWD isn't that hard like everyone that just reads about it makes it out to be.

Heck, this guy could probably cut each car in half and weld the AWD rear clip to the front clip. I've seen people do that to celicas to make fake alltracs. For someone who knows how to weld, it would definately Not cost as much as buying an awd car.

Yeah, then you go ahead and convert one over and have fun. It has nothing to do with thinking out of the box, that is just an excuse. Every thread that has had a "great idea" that doesnt make sense, we all get crap for "not thinking out of the box". How many of those great ideas came to light, NOT A ####ING ONE.

Number 2 - "fabricators" as you call them, dont go on message boards and ask questions like this guy did, they go out and do the work themselves
Number 3 - Do a search for 1g fwd - awd conversion. See how almost every thread ends up.

dont say stupid things like this. the thread is about converting a fwd to awd...not the other way around. any dumbass can pull the drive shaft off an awd and WOW fwd. in the case you meant fwd to awd, your still wrong.

also im not just reading about this and coming up with this stuff. I have been buying and tearing apart 1gs for quite a few years already and have done alot of work on my own, and customers dsms. im going by experience with customizing/making things work, as well as knlowledge about these cars.

If someone wants to spend the money to convert from fwd to awd, go for it. Just know in advance, you will end up paying as much to convert as it would cost to buy a running awd, and still keep your fwd.
