What is the most I should pay for a used 1G cylinder head?? Or should I try to find one that is rebuilt? I mean either way I intend to put a head that is rebuilt/cleaned (possibly ported) into my car; I just want on that is in good condition in my car. Thanx

Do guys like Shepherd and Buschur run 1g or 2g heads? That should answer your questions about which head is better.
No it won't. They probably run 2g heads but they aren't stock. Stock for stock, a 1g is better for turbocharged cars. However, when porting, the 2g allows for better shaping and ultimately better flow.

Hey, you're pretty sharp... guess what sitting on my block.

What a terrible argument. They could have used a 2.4L engine too. QUOTE]

Eh, did you ever consider the rule book?
"Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model."

That rule doesn't exclude building a stroker. Also, did you ever consider that maybe they want a bit more low end (hence the 2g head) due to their type of racing?

Either way, you're missing the whole point entirely.

why is everyone arguing. 1g tb/intake manifold/cylinder head is **better** for all around air flow. n/a or turbo. its just a fact. hands down, stop arguing what would flow better. 2g's stock wont come close to a 1g top swap. there is no suporting mods you need to do to the 2g 7bolt to get 30-40hp crank hp out of the conversion. and im sure there are people out there who have ported out their 2g head, intake runners that help, and alow airflow to exceed 1g stock flow. and im sure there are also people out there that have tuned their 2g's perfectly to out perform many 2gs with 6bolt swaps. but seriously guy, lets put that to bed, a stock 1g head flows more then a stock 2g head.

What would be your measureable if not good results in racing?

That didn't make any sense? what do my results in racing have to do with your 2g head being better than a 1G head?

Just because someone makes X (almost 400) horsepower with head A, doesn't mean it's better than head B, which wasn't included in a back to back comparison.

If they put a 1G head on and dynoe'd 345 ft/lbs, Then put a 2G head on the SAME setup with the SAME tune and dynoe'd 378 ft/lbs, then you'd have a valid argument.

You're just spitting out facts and numbers, with no comparison or controversial numbers to back them up. Let's see some back-to-back comparisons, and not just one sided facts.

While we might not agree on mufflers, we definetly agree on the fact that this guy's arguements are far from scientific. gsx951, did you ever take a science class in high school?

that's what i was was going to ask you... that and if you've ever had the head off of your car.
talk about timely, look what was posted on the autox list today:

"In the real world velocity doesn't matter though, since it can't be
measured on a flow bench :p. I sometimes wonder if DSMers ever look
at other cars and see what people are doing. In many cases I've
seen cars make more power when material was added to the port floor,
despite a smaller number on the bench. The 2G head port is a much
better design than the 1G head, and if you want a larger port just
remove material off the roof. The floor design is much better on
the 2G head than on the 1G head.
Not to mention the 2G head castings are much higher quality, with
less flash, and core shift problems. The seats on 1G heads often
protrude into the chamber and make a nice sharp edge that can cause
preignition. I haven't seen this problem on 2G heads at all."

this is not something i made up on my own, and as i stated, it is counter-intuitive but it's for real.

not just low end torque but more area under the curve.
come on kid, what the hell use is peak power when the curve looks like it belongs to a YZ-125? the name of the game is a broad torque band unless you are building a drag car.

Whatever, I'm tired of arguing with you. You refuse to believe people who use common sense to back up their arguments, and all you offer to support yours is little tidbits of he said-she said that have little or nothing to do with this particular application.
