I have found very little info on this subject. Wondering if many people have done this with success and no ill side effects. Is the front section of the driver side motor mount necessary or can you cut it off without any problems. Some of the aftermarket mounts I have seen does not have the front section. I have never seen it done myself and hoping to get some feedback.

Well I've done it on one of my old DSM's with no problems at all, but it does put more stress since instead of 4 bolts securing it down and distrubiting the weight properly only 2 bolts are holds it and more stress will happen on the mount.

. . .

I'd wait til a wiseman comments on this.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. You're making the other 3 mounts work harder, and likely letting the motor oscillate in directions it's not designed for. I can see this effecting the trans, the suspension, and performance. Maybe not immediately, but eventually.

But what do I know? I'm just an Aircraft Mechanic.

Yeah thats what I was afraid of Achelea. Not knockin any of the proven members but I was hoping to hear it from a wiseman or moderator. My car will be around the 450-500whp mark and I dont want to mess anything up.

My question is why you want to alter your mount which works great the way it is?

I know they're not using them for DDs but if you look at guys like Shep, Buschur, and Kiggly, none of them have that front mounting point. I figure if it doesn't affect a 800whp+ car going down the track then it's not going to have any negative effects on my car.

My question is why you want to alter your mount which works great the way it is?

It looks good yo! If you remove the PS bracket, which I haven't done yet......

The main reason I want to do it is to clean up the engine bay which will make it easier to work on everything. A little weight reduction would also be a plus. It is mainly a track car. I put very few miles a year on it. I realize that this is the way it was designed. That is why I am asking if it will hurt anything to alter it.

i cut mine and took the big bracket off, looks nicer and ive never had a bad effect from it and my motor mount wasent the best to start out with.... im going to get some solid ones... but seriously i would not worry about that...or worry about a wiseman commenting on it before doing it ??? lots of people do it and and i have never ever heard of a problem from it

Big and bulky.

Cut it and weld a plate over the ends so it's essentially "Solid".
If you like rattles and shakes.....Mwahaha....:idontknow:

I don't see why there'd be an issue, as you then have a mount very similar to a 2g. I did this on my 1G, and removed the PS and bracket, and it looks very clean. I would highly recommend it as a way to clean up the engine bay a bit, and remove a few pounds at the same time. I'm working to take as much weight as I can out of my 1G and keep it a 100% streetable car (down about 275+ pounds so far).

whats up dave? small world LOL!!!! cut that dude. I did it on mine years ago with no bad effects.
