I've heard that the 1G big rods can hold somewhere in the neighborhood of 400hp. Since I'm not entirely sure wether I want to do a 6 bolt swap and all forged internals, I'm trying to get some opinions wether the 1G rod/2G piston combo would be a good set up. I plan on running a 50 trim turbo, and will probably keep the boost fairly moderate, no more than 25psi. on a good tune and race gas. What do you guys think?

You would have to search and check, but im almost positive they can handle more than 400. Im tempeted to say upwards of 600. I have heard alot of cars are making alot of power on stock blocks with stock internals. The rods themselves are not the weak point, the pistons are. Depends on if this is daily driven and how much you intend to drive it.

edit: I know stock internals can handle 400+ as long as you are boosting just a turbo and get it tuned well. But it really depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your car.

The 1g "big" rods are very strong for a stock rod. However they will never handle upwards of 600hp. Anything over 425 is testing the limits of these rods. After this it is wise to upgrade your rods unless you want a hole in your block the size of your fist. As for the 2g pistons this is an upgrade compared to the 1g pistons. The 1g pistons ratio is 7:8:1 where as the 2g are 8:5:1. With this upping the compression ratio will give you some more ponies and spool up time on the turbo will increase. Hope this helps. :thumb:

My goal is somewhere around 400whp. This is a daily driver, but I also want it to have a decent amount of power. I think if I can find a set of these for a pretty good price I'm going to go this route. I've been down the road of fully built bottom ends, and it's all good and fun, but the cost of it can get a little steep. Thanks for the responses guys. :dsm:

No problem. Let us know what route you go and the results! :thumb:

Well the 2g rods will handle 400 whp. so the 1g big rods will handle more. maybe like 450-475.

Like I said before taking them over 425 is not a good idea. They will not handle it for long periods of time. Constant use with over 425whp will more than likely snap those rods.

You could go with the 1g big rods to be better off of just spend the money and get some eagle h-beam rods and be safe they are only like $400 or cheaper.
