1g awd bump trunk problem...

ok so i thought i had it all planned out... cut the hump out in the trunk and place a "flat" piece of sheet metal over it and weld it in... but i forgot that the gas tank comes up like 3 inches... so now i dont know how im going to put it all back...any options i could do... trying not to get a fuel cell...

I once ran into this problem. I fixed the gaps with expanding foam and then riveted sheet metal over the hump. It only really saves you an inch or so. You could also try and dent the tank in until you can place the sheet metal on the bottom of the tank floor. Just remember that junk sticking to the roof of the gas tank can fall into the fuel

I heard once that a fuel tank from another mitsu would fit with the flat trunk. Cant remember if it was a vr4 or what. food for thought

Welding gas tanks is highly dangerous many shops refuse to do it anymore. Even with the tank completely empty and with water in it there is still the chance of the tank exploding. If I were you I'd drop the tank then try to bang the hump out of the tank. This way if anything falls from the top of the tank you can wash it out.

If he does that he loses access to his fuel pump. I guess he can make an access door to get to the fuel pump but loses almost all trunk space. Not sure where he's goin with his build. I was under the assumption he wanted more trunk space and just a cleaner look?
