Where are you all at? I see people on here all the time that have turbo charged there non turbo 1g as i have done. Yet we don't have a thread to discuss our trials and tribulation, what setups work how your tuning, what boost what timing? I know we like to think we do stuff the same as the turbo guys, but sometimes i run into weird stuff that is only a problem on a car that was turbocharged after the fact! so lets hear what setups have worked for you and how much boost you run on a n/a bottom end.

my set up
6bolt non turbo block rods and pistons
90 turbo oil filter housing with external oil cooler
1g n/a head ported polished
cams out of a non turbo manual
wally 255 6an line from tank to a trick flow fuel filter
holly fuel rail rc 550 injectors Aeromotive fpr 40 psi fuel pressure
2g mas, Dejon intake pipe
14b turbo ported ALOT!
3in o2 housing with external dump
2.5 turbo back<--needs redone
1g n/a throttle body ported with fiave removed
fluideyne radiator fal slim fan
custom upper intercooler piping
1g bov crushed
act 2100, turbo trans 5sp fwd
90 turbo ecu repined and knock sensor added.
aem uego palm logger
interior gutted
battery relocated to trunk
mild wire tuck.
10psi right now has seen 18psi when i had my super afc
probably some stuff i forgot.

will be doing water alky injection before the end of the summer and getting something to tune with again

if this thread works out ill post some pictures

Sounds similar to the setup I had on my car when I converted to turbo. I rebuilt the n/a 7bolt motor and put in 2g turbo pistons.

Did you install a turbo oil pan for a return line?

What kind of weird stuff have you ran into? I made 276whp on my converted motor. Blew up my n/t transmission.

I was running 550cc's, walbro 255, 2g mass air, 2.5" turbo back exhaust, ported 14b turbo and 02 housing, basic gauges at the time.

Eventually after that motor crankwalked I rebuilt it entirely again (6bolt turbo motor) and sold the car

I did a 1.8 to turbo conversion, changed the ecu, wiring harness, motor / trans, and other stuff. Pretty simple. I could do these all day long, pretty much without a hicup. Also, I tune with Link, so it's pretty simple.

I pulled my non-turbo engine out (along with the ECU and wiring harness). Forget running 10 psi. My setup is in my profile.

I have run 28 psi on a b16g with supporting mods. This was done with the n/t block - b/s, turbo head and cams, arp studs in a turbo car. Turbo car-N/T engine.

hey guys, I might be doing this same set-up as well. I just bought a '91 GSX but w/ a seized motor and since that its hard to find a 4G63T at a decent price, I might use a 4G63 non-turbo motor (as a buildable core) and build it w/ forged internals.

aite, peace.

Sorry for the fuzzy pics i took them with my cell LOL. yes i used the turbo oil pan but i think im gonna go back to a non turbo pan and weld in a 8an fitting. "for the life of me cant get the return on the oil pan to seal" turns out i did forget some stuff i have a jays alt relocation, coil on plug set up.
92DSMErdrick What kind of boost where u running when you made 276?

I made 300whp, on a china 16g, stock n/t engine, 450cc injectors, E85, 255hp, and a cheapo intercooler. NO electrical tuning items what so ever. I had a modded n/t fpr, a really hacked 1g maf, 8* base timing, and 25psi boost.

Damn I wish I would have dynoed mine before I switched to the hx-35. Allthough my quarter mile times were.
60 ft=1.6650
330 ft=5.0019
594 ft=7.2660
1/8 e/t=7.7734
1/8 mph=88.69
1000 ft e/t=10.1682
1/4 e/t=12.2502
1/4 mph=109.98

This was my best time on the b16g @ 25psi. Ran great and still would have had the 3-bolt rearend not broken.

I'm all done with mine (with the swap at least, never really done).

looks good man never seen the gray before i like originality, do you know what the name of that color is?
can i ask why you went with the turbo throttle body? the na one is slightly bigger, do you still have the iac on there?
is that the turbo maf or non turbo maf?
you changed all the internals?

i like it you leave the 16vdohc on the side people never see it coming LOL

gotta clean mine up and get better pics

It is Charcoal Grey with the letters polished and a clear coat on top.

I have both but just like the turbo one better. My non-turbo throttle plate was sticking a little. The non-turbo and turbo throttle bodies both have a 60 mm throttle plate though. Yes I have the new generation "black" ISC.

is that the turbo maf or non turbo maf?
Turbo MAF for now, hopefully going up to a 3" GM MAF next year.

you changed all the internals?
It is a turbo block but I also changed out the internals, 8.3:1 Wiseco forged pistons, ACL race bearings, all ARP hardware, 6 bolt crank.

Yeah, it still says "GS" on the back and I still have the SMIC so it doesn't look turbocharged at all from the outside. I like your set up too, very nice! Feels great to suck in boost! :thumb:

Umm it was 5 years ago. I think i was running mid 20's for boost, might only have been around 22psi. Car took a crap on the dyno. Cylinder 1's rings were going, had a lot of blow by. Had around 9 counts of knock and the tune was pritty rough. I think my dyno sheet is available in my profile. All my mods are for my 90 talon TSi now.
Edit: It was only slightly over 20psi tappering off to 16psi.
