There are differences. It can be done. Somewhere in these forums and perhaps on VFAQ.com could be the answer. I learned that there are subtle differences all the way around. Even the timing belt covers are different. The 2g is a 7 bolt setup and the 1g prior to may 92 is 6 bolt. The heads will be different to a point etc.

I know it's a common swap and if you do your research, you will come out with the answers you seek.

Vague, but it's my best answer.

i know the engine swap is possible, i've done 3 7-bolt to 6-bolt swaps. i realize the 2g is wider, but i was going to have custom axle's made to be the right lengths and theres a guy who runs a welding shop out of our garage and he used to be co-owner of punishment racing. i know people with 2g's have put 1g rear ends in in them before but seeing the car is a front wheel drive i was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how to go about it....
