1G/2G Air Filter Intake Question

Hello.

I'm in the process of putting a MAFT on my 1G. I'm at the collecting parts stage, and I though I had everything I needed. But... when I tried to fit my air filter on to the turbo intake pipe, it wouldn't fit!

So after getting a better look at what I need, I am wondering about the intake pipe I have and what filter would best work.

Looking at the intake pipe, it's not a circle. It looks like a 2G style filter, because its like a squished 3" pipe (|||||). So I couldn't fit my air filter on because after squishing the tube to fit on, it being flexed vertically, there was no more room to get it on the pipe to put a hose clamp on it. It has about a half inch to an inch between the filter neck and the pipe that fits on the turbo intake.

So, finally the question...

So I have this 2G looking intake pipe, and this air filter that wont work. So, can anyone confirm a 2G air filter would work on my intake pipe?



I'm on my lunch break, so I will add a picture later so you can see what I'm talking about.

I really don't want to spend $90 on an intake pipe if I dont have to.

Ideas?

Like the image shows, the dimensions are 3" hight and 4.25" width.

Can anyone confirm that the 2G filter dimension are the same???

I looked everywhere for the dimenstions on the air filter.

It seems that it must be 4" x 7" or it's not listed.

I'm thinking I might need a no maf intake... ;(

that looks like it IS a 2g intake pipe, that end connects to the MAS. Don't know if you can find any filter that will direclt bolt on to that end. You may need to go with an entirely different intake pipe.

The FIPK wont work, It has a bigger opening then the pipe inlet.

I know K&N makes a shit ton of odd shaped filters but navigating there site sucks.

I personally would get a new intake pipe and filter. It would definitely save the hassel of trying to find one. It sucks but if your unsure of what you have better to get something where you know exactly what it is. But I'm also in agreement that it looks like a 2G pipe.

It looks as if its a 2g pipe to me as well. If you dont have a 2g maf to go on there, I would be getting one if I was you. The 2g maf can meter more air than the 1g. Thats what I would do instead of spending 90.00 on an intake tube to fit a 1g maf. Just my 2 cents. Hope I helped somehow.

what intake is currently on that car pictured? I need a different intake on my car (20g w/ 2g maf) and nothing seems to want to fit. The FP is closest to fitting but I dont have room for the air filter then :/

I don't know what type it is.

It could be a old school RRE 2g intake.
