So, i just got my first DSM car and have heard theyre a big deal. I'm wanting to know how to properly take care of this car. meaning, what is the best oil, the best antifreeze so on so forth. It currently has the stock, 2ndG engine block in it but, my bf tells me that its better to have a 1stGen.

A dsm being a big deal is a bit over-rated. All you need to do is perform routine maintainence and you'll be fine. The best oil is just a big on-going discussion. Just use stock 10-30 and change it regularly. Check and change all the fluids. Check and/or replace the timing belt. A 2g has a 7 bolt engine which is a good engine. Everyone is just worried about crankwalk on 7 bolts but that also is way over-rated. Your buddy is talking about a 1g 6 bolt motor which is a good motor but dont go jumping the gun just yet. If your 7 bolt has a decent amount of miles on it, which given the age of the car it probably does, then you dont have any crankwalk worries. Check out all the upgrade paths in the tech section and look at all the tutorials.

Well seeing as you have a non-turbo, a 7 bolt or 6 bolt engine is irrelevant to you. Those are engines that would go in a turbo DSM car. In my opinion, go sell it and buy a Gst or Gsx! :hellyeah:

Yea...my bf is a DSM newbie as well. he's worried abt my 2nd Gen engine getting crankwalk. I may have put GST on my Eclipse...i think this may be wrong. its 4cyl, 2.0L non-Turbo. the only thing aftermarket about it is the cold air intake and the exhaust. my car SOUNDS like a beast but, its just a 4cyl w/ a bit of kick. i have plans of installing a turbo. What other parts will give me good performance? i dont race it but, i do enjoy having a quick car.

oh yea, the doofus who owned the car before me put Champion spark plugs in it. i have heard it is better to put NGK iridium tips in. why is this beneficial?

sorry to burst ## bubble... but u kind of want to use the search button and top so u will find out some neat info
