Alright guys, I got another DSM today and it wont start. the guy CLAIMS he had it running before he out it on trailer and brought it to me. I noticed right away that the fuel pump wasnt firing so i jumped a positive to it and it works fine, still didnt fire. checked the spark and there was none. i have another ECU but its for an auto and dosent quite clip in. its out of a 97 eclipse but the guide bars ot whatever you call them that stop the wrong clip from being inserted are flipped. could i shave those off and try it? theyre both the exact same motor so im not sure if the manual trans and the auto trans make that bug of a difference or not but thought id run the idea past. Just want to get my car running so i can start working on what i want to work on. I read online it might be the ASD relay but i only have 2 relays on my firewall and everywhere i read it says there should be 3. if anyone can help me or guide me in the right direction id be much appreciative. Thankyou!!!!!

plan to look into that, i have another one from my eclpse somewhere in my garage. f***ers so small its hard to find in a big garage. i found the asd relay and replaced it, nothing still. wondering if maybe its out of time. but id still have spark wouldnt I? my eclipse was out of time and it had spark but obviously didnt run.

In your first post you say the fuel pump wasn't fireing. Do you mean it wasn't turning on when you turn the key?

The 420As only have 2 relays there. ASD and fuel pump.

Don't plug in an automatic ecu. It doesn't plug in for a reason. It's called Murphy proofing. There are a few extra pins that the auto trans uses. Should it hurt anything? No, I wouldn't think so. But I also wouldn't go shaving things off it to get it to fit.

ECUs on the 420a don't go out that often from what I have seen. So I doubt your problem is in the ecu.

That would be my next step. Careful where you buy it from. People have posted them not working brand new from autozone I believe. The length of the sensor was wrong. It has to match the oem length.

I got mine from Napa 8 years ago. Zero issues with it.

I would check the cam too but usually the crank goes out first.
