I bought a 1997 Eclipse RS about a month ago and the last owner complete trashed it and put a terrible straight pipe on it. Does anybody have any videos or recommendations about what exhaust to get? Does Greddy still sell?

There's a number of choices, though Vibrant is common. Check around with muffler shops, see what their stock is like, and if you'd be able to test combinations of resonators and mufflers during the build.
Doing it this way almost guarantees a bit of uniqueness in your sound, but it might be a bit pricier than off-the-shelf.

Someone with more experience with the 420A side may have suggestions.

okay I’ll ask the shop that. I’m just having a hard time deciding if I should buy muffler and resonator or a full catback exhaust. I think the previous owner put a cheap muffler and straight piped the resonator and it sounds awful 😂

Do yk if this would fit on my eclipse https://www.extremepsi.com/store/Gr...st-System-Mitsubishi-Evolution-X-2008-15.html

Straight piped the resonator? Straight pipe and a muffler are opposite things. if you are straight piping it, you have no muffler.

Id say just change the muffler at this point. It will change the sound 100% and if you have a proper resonator, that's half the job done already

I’m saying the previous owner cut the resonator and muffler and just put a pipe. He also cut the cats

Ah. So it's not "straight piped the resonator". There isn't one (and I don't believe there were any from factory)
Also, if he cut out the catalytic converter, you aren't looking for a catback. You'll have to re-add the catalytic converter, ie. a headerback with catalytic converter.

Since the piping is all presumably there and also if it's in good condition, just have a shop cut out the sections and a put in a catalytic converter, a bung for the rear O2 sensor (assuming the chrylser ECU has a provision for it like the DSM ECU does), and a muffler. Adding a resonator may complicate things but it will take out a bunch of the high pitch that 2L N/A engines tend to produce. See what shops you have local that can do all this.

I'm currently running an old HKS exhaust on my '99 OZ. The muffler is a bit old and a bit blown out after the years, but replacing the resonator that came with it with a Vibrant Ultraquiet resonator helped with the rasp when I was running the factor cat. When I replaced my cat, I had to add another Ultraquiet, since the replacement cat wasn't as dense as the OEM, causing more rasp due to more turbulent flow. Now, when warm my exhaust tone is nice and clean.

It all depends if you even want a convertor and if your flanges are still in place. If you don't want or need a convertor, and your rearward flange is still in place, just get a stainless catback and be done. My personal recommendation is and has been the Yonaka system. It isn't very loud, but it sounds like that's what you want.

I just really hate that the previous owner cut everything out. I was thinking of doing a custom exhaust with a greddy muffler and a flow for resonator but I have no clue where the resonator would go. I think my best option is to buy a cat back and see how I like it. If I dont is there a way I can buy a universal converter?

Can I hear it?

I currently have a 3 inch gst exhaust on my rs from front to back, some custom of course. It has a turbo and is still ridiculously loud, like a straight piped honda loud. The only thing I like about it is the turbo whistle, otherwise i would quiet it down. If mine is this loud, I can only imagine what yours sounds like.

Yep it’s terrible 😂 it’s going to be real embarrassing driving to the exhaust shop

Do u have a muffler?

This is my 2.5 inch Yonaka catback system. In the last couple of years they shrunk it down to ~2.3 inches (I bought mine probably 5 years ago). I would imagine it still sounds the same and that's really all the diameter you need for an N/A. Just something to think about. There aren't nearly as many bolt on options as there used to be, but still plenty of custom components to work with and you could put something together of preference if you don't like this. Sharing so you can chew on it. First video still has a convertor and is short due to HOA. Second video has a test pipe, tuned and running wide open since no HOA.
