Hi guys, wasn't sure where to post those im new to this site and these cars. I just bought a 1996 talon tsi awd from a guy in Pennsylvania in pa you need to have a title notarized, well long story short the portion on the back that needed to be notarized was just filled out and I got confused and thought the back sode just needs to be filled out by a dealer but i made a stupid mistake and crossed it out, I live in NY the dmv told me they wouldnt accepted and I needed to have the previous owner refile for a title, ive told him ill pay for all of it and give him an additional 150 or 200$, he just keeps telling me hes strapped for cash and cant do it so now I have a car I cant register. I was wondering if any of you know where all of the vin plates are, I was thinking about buying another junker talon and just swapping vins, or if anyone knows a way I can go around the previous owner the help would be greatly appreciated. I have the title still and a bill of sale.

There should be one on the drivers side at the front of the windshiled and I believe that there is another one in the engine bay on that passenger side on the firewall and possibly in the door jamb I can't remember about that one.

Is it easier in NY to try to apply for a new title on your own (is it even possible)? I'm in MA and I had a similar situation as you. There is a VIN# on the dash board, the firewall, and every single unboltable body panel (assuming they're OEM) on the car. It's also on a couple of "hidden" spots on the car from what I've heard. If this has to go through any type of specialized inspection where they will look for these, I wouldn't bother. I would tell the PO that I would meet him at the registry with my wallet open and just do it that way....
