okay so heres the issue. couple my buddies and i put in a newish motor thati had bought recently and hooked everything back up. they day came on this past sunday that it was going to start.

had the MPI fuse unplugged and the plug for the coil pack so the motor could crank for a few seconds to get the oil pumping. went to turnt he key and notging happend. felt the starter and was very hot and thought it was bad. went to the parts store and in fact was bad. bought a new one and put it in.

put the new starter in and nothing happend. so i decided to put the mpi fuse in and the plug for the coil pack in. put the ket in the ignition and went to turn it. and when it was in the on position before you turn it all the way to start it, the mnotor was already cranking, i got scared so i took they keey out and still continued to crank for about 5 or 6 seconds more.i tried once again and same problem. then after that nothing happend. juss the humming noise of hte starter.. so i packed up for the day.. does anyone know what could be wrong. i checked all grounds and such and nothing looks wrong. help please. thanks guys. :(

Im having a very similar issue, key in the on position it cranks for like 5 seconds or so then stops. I know my starter is good on my car and have checked a lot of things. Make sure your starter relay is good and start checking the wiring like i am trying to.

sticky ignition cylender. old cars can start and you can take the key out while its still running and it will stay running. try to pray break cleaner fluid in the key hole and put the key in and out a few times. as for the starter. i own a 1990 gst. inspect all the wires surrounding the starter for a short or corosion. im gonna go use my car as a test subject today to find out what could be causing ## guys's problems. will post soon.

alright thanks man. i would go out today to check but its pouring so so bad out. shooting for tomorrow. but i didnt recal seeing any corrision i would have noticed that or i hope ha. but i will deff look farther into this tomorrow. wish i had a garage =[

i have no garage etheir. LOL. im a driveway man, cold hard dirt ground and a peice of cardboard. i didnt get out to my car today because i was cutting and sewing leather to make my seats all black leather. im like a suisy home maker i guess. cook, clean, cars, computers, electronics, contracting. i will get out there some time tomarrow and look it over thow if the weather holds up here. i guess we are suppose to be getting rain and snow again.

so i was working on the car past weekend. still havnt founf the problem for the cranking in hte on position. had no spark. tested fuel pump and is working. and i am getting fuel to the fuel rail. replaced coil pack and still no spark. put new spark plugs and nothing. so was think ing the power transistor. got a new one. and puttin in this weekend. but i still havent solved the on position thing. does anyone know or have heard of this.. ive asked tons of people and they never heard of it. thankss.

after replacing these parts and 200 dollars later found out that the CAS was hooke up the the power directly. that explains the cranking in on position and no spark. my car start up now with no hesitation and idels fantastic =] my suggest to anyone is to tripple check ## connections and plugs and eerything. jus have to do a little more tightining and shes ready to hit the streets. so happy =] i <3 my dsm haha
