k guys so bought a 1990 awd turbo eclipse about a year ago and i ve been rebuilding the internals and so, ive finish putting the motor together and back on the car but i just cant seem to get it to start.( crank)

things ive done and notice
1) Ive checked the starter and took it to a shop( ex. autozone) and they told me its fine.
2) took out the cam sensor and start spinning it while key is set to on and i did get a sparks and fuel pressure( did it after searching the forum) :thumb:
3) i can hear the mpi( the thing thats suppose to do a click after you take the key off the ignition)
4)if i connect the starter plug into the cam sensor plug and i put the key on the "ON" the starter will start cranking but if i connect every plug in its place i just get like a voltage drain(and when i press the clutch its drains even more) when i try to start the car... btw i also notice that while the key is on "on" there a very lil voltage difference like its going up and down a bit every 3 sec or so it drain and then gets back to normal.. and fans are working , radio is working, ive changed bateries and still nothing

btw i do think im putting the plugs on right
any suggestion other than getting it over to a mechanic? since im on a tight budget??

Question.. have you had the motor running since the build or no? if not I would check the compression on all the cylinders.. then make sure you are getting adequate fuel pressure(according to spec) no just fuel pressure.. if that is ok and you say spark is good then we can check certain electrical connections.

the motor was runnign and i did manage to take the car out so i could put it in the garage, before i took it apart it had 3 broken pistons and 1 rod was bent, so i bougth and replaced all pistons and rods. sent the crankshaft and the cilinderblock to the machineshop.

dont know if thats what your asking, my english and car knowlege isnt that great but i do understand most of the things

first start up

but even if i dont have enough fuel pressure, why isnt the car cranking when i put it on "start" is it relevant if im get the right amount if the motor isnt turning?

If your car isnt cranking and you dont hear the starter clinking then either a mechanical component in the starter isnt working right or it isnt getting electical power.. check the positive going to the "b" terminal of the starter for power and check ground (case ground). Also check the starter relay for proper operation. Assuming you have proper spark, fuel pressure, and compression

if its 5 spd be sure to check the switch on the clutch pedal you can jump it with a paper clip but try just unplugging it first

as far as ground i think it has ground other wise why would it start turning when i plug it to the cam sensor plug? and yes its at the b terminal, so what else can i do? cause i already took the starter to auto zone and they tested it with the machine and still and it turned out just fine.

and about the pedal clutch switch its working since you can hear and see the voltage drop each time you push the pedal while trying to start it.. should it do that?

idk but its real easy to bypass and rule out

you do have the signal wire to the starter hooked up right its a small wire that clips on the starter solenoid

yep i checked and double cheked that.. i was also thinking that it might be the starter relay, how do i check if its good or not? do i have to buy a new one just to find out?

umm is it posible to re wire my starter so its start with a push button insted of the ignition switch?? like a direct connecton from my bat to the pushbutton to the starter??
here is a diagram of the circuit to the starter taken from the repair manual

The starter is about the simplest circuit on the car, two powers and the unit itself grounds back to the battery. Check for 12v at both and make sure you have one of the bolts going through the ground strap that holds the batttery to the bell housing.

If that isn't working you have a bad ign relay or ignition switch.. uhh I am assuming you have a good battery.... RIGHT??
