18g turbo question

thinking about picking up a td05-18g was brand new for a Subaru , the hot side is not the same can i just take the hot side off my 16g and toss it on the 18g ?

I don't know the awnser for sure if it'll fit or not but it aint hard at all to pull each hot housing off, mic the hot wheels, and try to stuff her back together.

I'm wantin to say it would work tho.

If its a genuine mhi turbo I don't see why it won't fit. Unless you're getting a smokin deal on it I'd say pick up a 20g you don't have to modify

As mentioned above, unless it's Genuine and under $200 I'd pass. The cost of the replacement turbine housing, compressor cover, and configuring an internal wastegate or going external is going to dwarf the price of the turbo itself.

How is any of this relevant? If the turbine is the same size, why wouldn't it clamp to a 16G Hot side housing, and be a direct chra replacement if it has a tdo5 7cm wheel?? Isn't a 16g turbine housing like $40?

Yes, new 16G turbine housings are $40.

Get a clue. If it were easy and cost-effective to adapt a Subaru turbo to a DSM, wouldn't you think more guys would be doing it?

18g are crummy and a waste of money you better off with a evo 3 16g good price you can get one in classifieds.

Who said new? There all over used. Especialy ones from blown turbos that can't be rebuilt. I had a guy give me a MHI 16g hot side for free. It was brand new.

I don't think it would be "cost-effective" for MHI to make 2 completely different 18g turbos.

I don't think it would be "cost-effective" for MHI to make 2 completely different 18g turbos.

Mitsubishi never produced a direct-fit 18G for a Subaru or a DSM, so I don't understand what you're getting at.
