17x8 wheels to big?

thinkin of goin with a 17x8 with a 40mm offset. running 215/45/17's.
what do you guys think??? i need opinions on the size, dont know if 17x8 is to wide or not?
any you guys runnin the same set up, thanks guys

Im running some O.Z, 18"x8 offset 40 and its fits fine, also have 225-40-18. So yes you will be OK

I'm running 17x8 rims with 225 45 17 and there's still a fair amount of room. I think I will try some 235 45 17's next year.\

Go with a 225 tire, they sit flush with the edge of an 8" wide rim.

I have 17/8 40mm offset with 235 tire and I needed to grind the rear fender lip a little to make the tire clear under full suspension compression. That's what you will have to watch for too if you go too wide.

17/8 will fit with no rubbing if you use 225/45 tire. once you step up to 235 and correct the allignment with the offset lower then 42mm rear will rub and you will have to trim the lip a little. I have 18/8 with 235 and 41mm and the rear is trimmed a little ..

when you order your wheels, specify what kind of car (fwd,rwd,awd also make/model) you're going to put it on. the place should tell you which rims fit and which doesn't. 17x8 is not that wide, i have 215/45/17 and it doesn't rub at all, i have a 2G. i probably could've used wider tires but the shop sold it to me as a package...

i've seen that style on a 1G but not the same brand. those looks like knock-offs of Racing Hart C5's

yea, thats the idea, instead of payin 1050$ or so for a set of RH c5's, i can get those for bout 750$, i love those, prolly just go with the silver

there's lots of other wheels out there that are knock-offs of RH C5's, even better than the one that you posted coz it doesn't have that big mark on one of the spokes... i think Nippon Racing has 'em and it's called Version 5's. i think they go for about $520 for a set of 17"s without rubber.

I have seen those on a 1g before they looked alright. I will try and find the pic when I get home in two days. I however think that the spokes are a little too thick for the body design of the 1g and they don't quite fit the look of it.

nice work venom those were the pics I was going to post but couldn't find. They look alright to me but I dont' know I would go with a thiner spoke design on a 1g, but it is your car do what makes you happy.

i'm runnin a set of 17x8.5 on a 38m offset... with a 245/40/17 tires...no rubbing at all...wider is always better... i'm plannin on puttin on flares n run a 18x9.5 275/35/18...but then again this car doesnt see the street alot.

The 225 tire does not sit flush with a 8" rim. It has to flare out to seat. I'm running that now. It's better for not following the road as much, but a 235 fits the rim much better (which is what I had before). If you want a 225 get a 7.5 wide rim.

the way the tire sits flush with rim depends on the make of the tire. different tire manufacturers have different sidewall designs. Falken ziex will sit flush @ 225 on the 8" wide wheel, but the good years wouldn't on the same rim.
