Im gwtting a set of rims for my talon and is wondering what would be better, 17's or 18's. i dont plan on doing any road racing but i am going to drag race it when it is up to it. Oh its AWD too im not sure if that makes a difference. so im just looking for some advice and to see what other people have done.

Is there any reason you even need 17's? Smaller wheels will always be better than bigger ones, as long as you can fit them over your brakes. If you have stock brakes, a lighter set of 16's is the way to go, ESPECIALLY for drag racing.

the bigger the rims the more ya speedometer will be off

No, the bigger the overall diameter, the more the speedo will be off. You can run 17's or 18's and still have the same overall diameter as the stock 16's by using lower profile tires.

thats what i was planning on doing keeping the same diameter as the stock 16's

oh u ment tire and rim well i realize that but he is choosing between 17" and 18" so i figured he was getting low profile either way

I just got some 18's for my 2g. Still has a bit too much gap for my taste, so I'm gonna get some springs to drop it about 1.5inches.

I'd say go with with whatever you can afford, whether that be 17's or 18's. Get the 18's if you can find em for a good price. Check Ebay!

I'd only go with the 16's if you gonna go into hardcore racing.

they are more than his budget.

17's are lighter cheaper and have more "meat" on the tire thus are less likely to get damaged.

also a 17 will have a bit more sidewall flex as compared to an 18 because of the thicker tire. if the OD is the same then the contact patch will be the roughly the same too

hey trapspeed , i was wondering if u can post a side pic of your car , i wanna see the rota's , im chosing between them and the adr spades i guess , thanks

i have 18's and my cars droped but there was little diff if any from the previous 16 to the 18 in terms of launch or speed IMO i wouldnt trade my rims for nuttin :p

i'd got with 17"

There are lot of disadvantages to 18":

-the extra inch is quite pricey compared to 17" rims

-Braking distance will increase

-acceleration will be hurt

-require quite the low profile tires so damage to rims is inevitable...

i agree on 17's even though i like the looks of 18's on dsms , i run 235/45 17 with prokits and love it , nice sidewall too

THE ULTIMATE WHEELS ARE SSR COMPETITIONS 17x8 ONLY 14LBS OMG
Ive read a few reviews where people had bent those on the beamer forums, it's a popular wheel for the z3 and z4 guys. The guy on tire rack assured it was a solid wheel but there were still about 5 seperate guys with complaints about that wheel.
