no he doesnt launch the car as hard as he could, he slips the clutch to save trannys

MORON

greathuskie: Whats your deal man? Have you watched sheperd launch? He takes off pretty fricken hard. He may not race his car to the max right now, but I think that gives more power to him, because that means his car is capable of running faster times. Is your car close to as fast? Didn't think so!

he also doesnt launch the car....

Slipping the clutch to save trannys is bad because...???!?!????

Slips the clutch AND still gets 1.4 60's??? Sounds like a smart guy and a great driver to me, so what if he doesnt do tranny killing clutch dumps. In reality, only an IDIOT would do clutch dumps with the amount of power he is making.

Oh that's right, I forgot, you have a car putting out that much power and know that's true.

I think I'll trust John Shepards judgement on how to go fast, and not some nobody.

He MIGHT have a better 60' but definately a whole lot more downtime from breaking sh!t

BTW you seem so confident that the only reason he hasn't ran better times is because he chooses not to, for the sake of his parts. I tend to think that's less than truthful. Do you really think that he can't afford to break parts, even once every few race days? I think if he could he would beat on it at least once, just to set a new record for himself.

Consistency pays much better the new personal bests. Guys I hear this resounding theme of he leaves the line easy blah blah. How do you think he went from the 9.8s to the 9.3s? He improved his 60ft significantly. I think next year he is going to have to be a lot more aggressive if he wants to place well. As for parts breakage. He does drivetrain maintenance quite often. Depending on who you talk to he replaces his bearings, syncros and clutch disk every 30 or so passes.

10 second car? Heck, its possible to have a 9 second street legal car even! I read about a 9 second supra in turbo performance (i think it was this mag) that was a street driven car. I can tell you this though, it sure had one big @ss turbo if ya know what i mean. I thought it was sweet.

no its not possible to have a 9 second street legal car. any modification to the exhaust is illegal, espicially the converter, even if replaced with a "50 state legal" hi flo cat that WILL pass emissions its illegal.

He was interviewed by Turbo magazine a while back and he made a comment about how he slips the clutch on his launches because he doesn't want to break stuff...

Since when? There are cars running a lot faster than 9s that are “street legal”

Depends on where you live. In Berks County Pa we don’t have emissions and a careful review of the PA state inspection book says that as long as your exhaust is muffled you are good to go. So I don’t need a cat either. Some southern states barely even have inspection. So please limit your posts to things that you actually know about thanks

actually federal law which overrides ANY state law states you cannot legally modify the exhaust on a street driven car which yes included a converter. you really are a 16 year old idiot if you think some county law has more clout that federal

Im not buying that sorry. You think the federal government would allow so many exhaust companies to exist if you couldn’t do ANYTHING to you exhaust. Come on now there is so many loop holes in that statement it just doesn’t hold up. Are you saying that EVERYONE that has an aftermarket exhaust on their car is in violation of federal law? What about exhausts that are CARB certified? Cite your source and you will get an apology until then I say you are FOS.

You can do anythign you want to your exhaust. Alot of states have decible limits that they cant exceed. Some states there is no law against it. If it was realy a federal law thered be ALOT more exhaust tickets being given out than there is now.

I dont really care if youre "buying it" or not it doesnt matter, i know the laws. With your reasoning why does the goverment allow guns to be made, and sold at places like walmart since so many people get mudered. Also po's dont enforce lots of laws because its pointless. the police can pull you over for doing 1mph over the limit and ticket you but why dont they? its a waste of time. Anyways I am and was required to know state and federal laws so think what you want.

Maybe we should get back on topic here.;) The guy started the thread to talk about Magnus' 10 second package. From experience, I can say that to get into high hp numbers(over 400whp), you need to spend alot of money to do it right. I've put more than $15k into my car including the motor swap and labour, so I can see $17k being reasonable for what they claim the ET's will be.

Just my 2 cents, which after taxes really amounts to nothing.:(

Get out of here noob, You have no clue whats going on.

In Ohio only 20-30% is under emmisions laws. In the rest of the state you dont even need an exhaust.

You just made a fool out of your self by saying:

 You know nothing. Only populated areas are under close regulations. Not the whole country.

who cares if im a newbie on your stupid import site. I didnt say police officers enforce exhaust laws, most dont. I didnt say you HAVE to have exhaust in rural areas because in most you dont need it. ALL i said was that epa laws state you cannot legally modify your exhaust. You may or may not follow epa laws but as a manager I was required to. And yes I HAD to take a test on exhaust and emmision laws to even run the shop. Before you talk #### to a ford, honda, and ASE master technician learn something kid
