I'm replacing the small 16g that I've had for over 70,000 with a new big 16g turbo. Only thing is that I had a lot of port work done on the exhaust housing of the small 16g and I don't want to pay another 150 or so dollars to have the new big 16g housing ported out. I'm wondering how hard it would be just to swap the exhaust housings and if I can in fact do this, is there any balancing that is involved. Thanks.

I have kinda the same question but I have a EVOIII and NEED to get it ported but can't have a downtime of longer than a weekend. I have a beat 16g, can I send that out to get ported. And put that on without balancing?

yes housings are interchangable for those turbos and no you dont need to balance anything. just take of oil drainline. take out the 02 housing. take off the manifold to turbo bolts. remove the clamp around the housing.. loosen it with a screwdriver or hammer and pull it off nice and slow. reverse the process for putting one back on.
