16G Compressor Surge

So I think I have compressor surge on my small 16g. I was driving down the road today and got into boost (14psi) and while on maybe 3/4 throttle I started to hear the bov very slightly in the background and compressor surge was the first thing on my mind so I babied it home and parked it. I waited a while for it to cool down then I pulled the intake and checked for play, there was no in and out play and no up and down but it had side to side play and it made a little click noise when it moved. Is it my bov or the turbo? I am not sure. And is it safe to keep driving it without worrying about engine damage? Help please.

Is your blow off valve recirculated?

No. It's atmosphere with stock maf.

Do you think that could be the cause of all this? The only reason I havn't recirculated the bov is because i need a really odd shaped piece of tubing because the bov is under the intake.


Does anybody know where I could get a piece to recirculate it?

I saw that thread before posting this one, I guess I was just hoping I wouldn't need to replace the turbo . Guess I will anyways, is it better to just buy a new one or get mine rebuilt? I don't know how to rebuild a turbo or want to try and possibly screw it up. What's the cheapest way to go?

Rebuild shouldn't be too expensive but if your going to want something bigger down the road, you might as well do it right the first time.

Getting the turbo rebuilt will be cheaper. If you want bigger than buy what you want. Did you check to see if the bov is leaking. Mine would leak a little and i could hear it. So i crushed it a little to make the spring stiffer and because of that it didn't leak anymore. Just a thought before you buy a new turbo.

Surge doesn't mean your turbo needs rebuilt....where did you come up with that?

Well first recirculate in my brotha.. Its one of the amazing things of the recirculation tubes your car came with

And just fab a rubber tube that fits man..

I'm actually still having similar symptoms to those I had in that other thread. I've switched to a 7cm housing since then and it still happens. I've switched boost controllers and intakes too.
