Just a quick question is it safe to be running 15lbs of boost everyday on my daily driver with stock internals? Will this cause the engine to have a shorter life span? I was told by my mchanic doing my headgasket replacment that i now need a rebuild because after they did the replacement and put it back together a bunch of other problems starting coming up and they said it was all due to runing that much boost and the engines are not able to handle this much power. Any responses would help out thanks.

Your mechanic is lying to you. The cars can handle 25 psi with enough fuel and cold air.

haha, your mechanic is a moron. The engines can handle 27psi on a 60 to 1 turbo, 450+ horsepower, and hell with 120,000 miles on both head and bottom end.

Since it seems you are about stock, you could run 15 or a little under 13-14 and that would be safe for you. Know if ya got problems with ya car then take it easy w/the boost.
Well now I see that you got a big 16g w/o fuel pump and injectors maybe 16 would be cool for you. If you got both then you can go 18-20 with no problems as long if you got something to control the fuel afc, chip.

15 psi is nothing or a stock engine with enough fuel and air flow you can run plenty more! Tuneing is key just don't get any KNOCK  and you will be fine! I was running 21 lbs on my daily BEATEN GSX with 135,000 miles and haven't had a problem yet! knock on wood!

So long as you have a way to deliver and monitor fuel, the stock motor will handle FAR more then 15PSI, guys have put down 400+ horsepower on stock internals!!! Your mechanic is looking for some moolah! :sneaky:

I think he's tryn to take you for a sucker, sorry... Let me talk to your mechanic! Whats your compression ratio?

Fire your 'mechanic' and hire an 'automotive technician'. You can teach a monkey how to be a mechanic, Being a technician is actually formal training on a specefic unit/platform. You're running 16psi on a 16g without fuel pump? OMG You have GOT to be having fuel cut. If you want to go that route, i'd run the stock wastegate spring JUST to be on the safe side. I've found that unless somebody owns and works on a DSM that they typically dont know much about them. Some guy said my car wasnt running right because of my HKS cam-idle being choppy/lopey on a 4 cyl. ROFL

I don't think he's lying, maybe just misinformed and thinking in general when he doesn't have experience with a 4g63.Let me tell you when i worked at a neighborhood shop,we got 2 turbo dsm's in three years,so that'll tell you.Lucky for them i had already been a tuners freak from then so i was informed and we didn't have any problems. He's must using that as an excuse, because he can't really find the problem.Don't believe the hype on that technician bullshit. It's experience that counts, not a little paperthat says you know something just because you paid a course for it.

Hay Speedy13, I have a problem w/what you and others say around here. You called yourself a tuner? Your not a tuner you are a tech or handyman. A tuner is someone who can build a car from top to bottom and have them running right pretty much. Like a guy say I want your stage 3 package and leave you the car and I will be back in two weeks. You work on the car tune it, have it ready for the customer. Tuners are people like Buchar, Extreme, turbotrix, Lingenfelter,Hennessay, etc. These are real tuners, just because you worked on a few DSM that don't make you or anyone a tuner. This reply is not to discredit your knowledge or anyones elses, it's just to state stop throwing that term out there so loosely!

Also I would state a tuner is one that works mostly one type of car, therefore he can answer 99% of the question related to that car or engine. He would probably have his own dyno with like I said before proven packages with a shop car or countless customer cars that reperesent his name in a high fashion.

You car motor can handle 15psi daily drive just fine. You have the mods in your profile to atempt this. But I would check your Intercooler see if it is clean. I cleaned mine before atempting 15psi found some oil inside cleaned it out all is good now.

:talon:

I had the evo 16g on my stock engine and ran 20psi daily and 25 at the track with no problems. I paid $110 shipped for my color logger package and I just monitor knock. Then I was tunning with only an afc and a logger so yes it is fine to run that. Take about $300 and just get an afc and a logger if you dont have one and you will be set.

never said i was a "TUNER".I was referering to myself as a member of this site, that is all.I am very far away from being atuner and i have no problem admitting to that. You must of misunderstood me.i don't even know hoe to work an AFC.I simply have basic knowledge of cars and can fix some things, and some more complicated i can't.I totally agree with you on those big names that your throwing out and your statement. But Joe the mechanic in your neighborhood can't afford to only work on 1 type of car because he wont make any money and has a family to feed.Bring him your car, pay 1500 for an engine rebuild or take it to buschur and spend 10,000 in his shop.If everything goes ok with Joe you'll be ok,and not a big as hole in your pocket,if it doesn't he might get stumped because of lack of experience with a certain car and it could take him weeks or maybe months to solve the problem as to where "buschur" will know exactly where to go to start eliminating probable causes to the problem.Again experience, you can't put expirience on a piece of paper.
