I've gone 12.5 on the stock IC and 14b (on unleaded race gas). The charge temps on that pass were well over 200F by 4th and it was seeing knock by 3rd gear. With the Dejon SMIC, I've gone 12.19 and the charge temps were about 180F through the traps. On pump gas with water/meth injection, I've gone 12.25 on the dejon setup.

If you're looking to push a 14b to it's limits, a stock SMIC will definitely be a limiting factor, and water injection will help but won't be a miracle cure for heat soak.

Just as the title says. I thought about using the Supra sidemount, but now I'm thinking otherwise and just using the stock IC. I don't plan on upgrading the turbo on my car, just pushing it to its limits. I've read a lot on water injection, and I hope to one day do that. Would that be enough instead of upgrading the IC? Cause I've heard of people running 12's with the stock one, which is why I'm curious if I should just stick with it and use water/alcohol injection. Thanks in advance.

But is it necessary for what I want/plan to do? Thanks.

Nope, it's certainly not. I went 12.95 on a stock IC and improved to 12.78 with a DejonTool unit. Upgrading won't hurt, but if you plan to add water injection, you should be more than able to cool the intake charge enough. However, an upgraded IC does provide more flow and the Supra unit, although not a direct fit, is a very capable piece if you want to stay sleeper.

Hope that helps,

Andy
