ok, got this 14b from ebay (will be my last purches) anyways, guy said "good running order"

now i get it and im like yes, a turbo for a stock rebuild break in, will save me from getting all the goodies (as posted in my other post for 18g setup) at this time and run the 14b for awhile and then upgrade...

well i get to looking at it, its dirty, so no biggy, but i found some cracks, but not sure how long it will hold out, so im posting pictures to ask the guys here, some local forums that im just dont cut it sometimes. so plan is using this for break in around what 8psi/10psi with stock fuel system (maybe dsmlink with 780ccs tuned to 450s) and a fuel pump rewire, that should be ok???

anyways, enough blabbing here is the pic's

Not a big deal. Most of the used 14b's are going to have some cracks like that. The thing to keep in mind is that the size of the crack when its cold and sitting on the bench is much larger then when the turbo is 1100F and on the car. If there isn't a lot of shaft play I would just put it on the car and go have fun.

I've seen housings that were cracked far worse work perfectly when they're in the car. As long as there are no cracks the whole way through the housing leaking externally, you have nothing to worry about. The turbine wheel looks nice and dry- no evidence of a turbine seal leaking....I'd say run it!

One of the hardest things I've run into is explaining to a potential buyer of one of my rebuilt turbos is that the cracks around a wastegate flapper are totally normal on a Mitsu turbo with over 5k on it. It's damn near impossible to find one without cracks.

If yours looked more like this, I'd be worried:

If it's mainly so you can break in your engine, it will work fine. At about 10psi or stock boost you shouldn't require any other fuel mods. It's bigger than the T-25 but at that boost you should be more than fine. If you were to keep it, I would recomend a 7cm turbine housing form a 16g turbo, a fuel pump and maybe up to 18psi. Good luck.

its pretty normal for 14b i have had several and they all split, should have gotten a 16g

i know its normal for them to split, just did't know if they where still good for a break in. and NO i shouldn't have gotten a 16g to do what i plan with the 14b...... :nono:

thanks fromt he other tuners, I have plans to use this for a few months, then go to the 18g or the Evo3 depending on the prices as it comes to that. Got most of my parts for the engine install so now i just have to wait for warmer weather :hellyeah:

16G housings will crack just as easily around the wastegate hole- that's unavoidable.

Evo III 16G housings won't crack but they're soft so the threads pull right out. If you've ever bought a used one, chances are it needs (4) HeliCoils installed in the manifold flange. Happens all the time.
