hey i just got my 14b installed this weekend, and it runs pretty good. though i'm sure there are boost leaks they aren't huge or anything, and the coolant isn't leaking. oil, however, is leaking from the oil return tube where it connects to the pan, but i have yet to really mess with it...i'm gonna put some RTV around it, etc etc. now for my questions:

my oil pressure seems kind of low after i drive it around then turn it off, let it sit for a sec, then turn it back on. comes back up as i drive though. does this have anything to do with me getting oil from the head? should i consider switching to a thicker oil (at least for the summer)?

secondly, though it is just one of those autometer A/F gauges that you guys so love to refer to as decorations, it is showing my mix as all the way lean. when i get on the gas it bounces between lean and stoich for a little bit but never really goes to rich, nor does it bounce back and forth like normal. could this be b/c the battey's been dead for a couple weeks and we had it out this weekend so the ECU has to relearn everything? thanks guys!

did you put a new gasket on the oil return pan? How about the washer that go along with the bolts? RTV sometimes clears it up, sometimes not. What is the oil pressure? Are you looking at a stock gauge? When you go WOT the autometer gauge should go green and stay there, if not you are to lean. Get a logger. It should also bounce back and forth during idle and cruising.

Hey glad you got it on with no major problems.

My oil leaked from the return line too, so i just put some RTV and it fixed it.

My oil pressure seems to be fine.

How much boost are you running and when does it start to spool?? when does it reach full bost?

i didn't buy an actual gasket because i was told that the RTV would take care of it fine. i'll just put some more on later. also, i know what an A/F gauge is supposed to do, i was just asking about why its in the lean area, not how to read one.

on the oil pressure i'm lookin at the stock gauge, yes.

as for the boost, i'm currently runnin .8-.9 bar, about 12-14 lbs. I have a 1g bov that i have yet to put on, then i'll go up to either 15 or 16, but maybe not until i find out why its lean. i'll remember to check when it starts to spool and when i get full boost the next time i take it out.

i never said you didnt know how to read one.. i was telling you it should be in the green.. Its in the lean area because.. well lets think about this one, maybe because you are running lean... Where is your logger, what are the 02 volts, timing, etc? Im still confused why you didnt put a gasket and RTV on..

i know it should be in the green when i go WOT. it came with a paper telling how to read it. not only that but the gauge itself is labeled. its not that hard...

obviously its in the lean area because i'm lean, i was asking maybe if anyone knew why it would be lean after the install of a 14b - a turbo that's not exactly gigantic compared to the t25 - and running it at less psi than before (10).

i don't have a logger, now i realize i should have one already, so its on the list. would a bad o2 sensor be the cause for the lean reading? it just threw a CEL tonight, and i've heard that when the o2 sensor goes bad it takes a little bit of driving before it shows up as a CEL. thanks.

yes, i was just about to ask you if the 02 sensor was good. Is it throwing the code for the front or rear o2? Front will definetely mess things up. And the 14b is pretty gigantic compared to a t-25, LOL :sneaky:

That sucks about the leak at the pan, I'm going to be getting my install kit from SBR in next Wed, so I might start that night. I was considering not ordering a kit to be cheap about it but I didn't want to run into leaks and then end up having to take stuff off and what not. Also ordered a new primary o2 sensor (Denso) so that'll get done as well.

Yeah I would consider getting a logger if I were you, I don't have a A/F gauge yet but I think the logger is sufficient enough. Maybe you just need to throw in a fuel pump.

On a second hand, how long did it take you to do and places where you got stuck?

I figured I just have to remove upper and lower hs, fans, downpipe, drain oil and coolant, remove intake, o2 sensor I'll just disconnect at the harness, then move on to the coolant and oil lines and then finally the 3 bolts and one bolt.

Even though the 14b is not too much larger it will still flow proportionally more air then the t25. Have you done any fuel mods? If not you may want to think about it. But check your cel first and if it is an o2 sensor get that problem solved first. If you had a logger you could do all this with one tool.
