After my stock T-25 blew itself to peices a while back, I've installed and been running a re-built 14B on my 2G. I had to replace the cat, seeing all the oil/coolant that had been dumped on it sufficiently clogged the thing.
After getting all this sorted out, the car runs great but I've noticed a few things I'd like to fix to get the thing running like it should.
First off, it doesn't seem to reach the normal stock level of boost that used to occur on the T-25. I know the stock boost gauge is horribly inaccurate, but seeing its the only method of boost guessing I have here's what I've observed.
Back on the stock turbo, at full on accelerating, it used to go as far as that needle could go on the guage. Just a bit higher than the very top bar on the gauge. On the new turbo, it barely makes it past the second highest bar, and it just feels like its not making what it should.
One thing I thought of, is that when I had the 14B rebuilt, they needed to install a new wastegate on it, and the new one had a considerbally larger valve than the old one. New valve need more vacuum to open to the same setting as the old one? If thats the case, how can I tweek that unless I have a controller of some sort.
Also, the new turbo is extremely quiet. I can barely hear the thing spooling at all, and there I can't hear any blow off. I did shorten that huge tube coming from the bov so, i suspect thats why I can't hear any blow off. The place I had the turbo re-built does those top speed bonneville cars and also performed some sorta micro-balancing on the turbo shaft. I'm not complaining, it runs so incredibly smooth, but I just can't hear the thing.
Please exuse my newbyness, but this is my first turbo car, and I've always been an N/A guy so any thoughts on my questions are greatly appreciated.

To shine some light on the problem with the stock boost gauge not going all the way up. Well, the stock boost gauge DOES NOT measure the amount of pressure (boost) going into the intake manifold and therefore the engine. The stock gauge "Guess-ta-mates" how much boost is being blown into the engine by the amount of air traveling through the MAF. So there might be something interfering with your intake. Perhaps a dirty filter, etc.
Good luck bud
