Alright, got my car back and my turbo is shot. I'm gonna put a 14b on instead. I'm just making sure that I have all the right parts.

I have
14b turbo
14b oil lines (feed return)
1g j pipe

Anything else needed?

2g Install kit

Not totally necessary, but it does make life easier.

J-pipe (and L-pipe to stock SMIC location), turbo/manifold gasket, new turbo bolt to replace turbo stud, water lines (or bend stock 2g lines), oil feed, oil drain, anti-sieze, PB Blaster, Port the 14b yourself, beer. That's pretty much it. Use your 2g O2 sensor housing since it flows better than the 1g, but port the wastegate inlet on the O2 housing to match the shape of the wastegate outlet of the 14b. (I may have that last part backwards; it might be the turbo that needs to be ported to match the 2g O2 housing wg inlet.)

Alright, got the j-pipe, new gasket, oil feed/drain, the bolts were already replaced with new ones on the exhaust mani so thats done. Looks like I just need the water lines, which I can modify to fit easily.

For the L-pipe, is that exactly needed? Is it a special pipe made for the conversion, or is it a stock 1g part?

O yea, I've searched this topic, but every time it comes up there are 1000 different answers. One tech guide shows a home made install, but doesnt list all the parts needed, some just say install kit, while others will say you only need so and so parts. It really is confusing, thats why I just asked.

Well, the J-pipe will come off the turbo and point down towards the front motor mount. That's all fine and dandy, but it's about a foot and a half away and 90* the wrong direction from where it needs to end up. Most install kits come with a coupler an L-pipe and another coupler to reach the side-mount. Like so:

That's the RRE pipe set-up and basically how it goes. I have this one and have to modify it a bit for my FMIC setup.

yes its needed, you can cut your OEM rubber licp if you dont mind hacking it, you'll see where it needs to be cut when you have it apart

I just remembered that you can do that too, but I think it might not reach. If it does, it's probably because the black plastic mystery reservoir is still in place before the intercooler. Most people just eliminate this whatever method they use for an L-pipe. The RRE pipe replaces it automatically. It's okay to leave in, but I have never seen an actual explanation of any advantage that the reservoir serves.

You can cut your rubber S-hose, you can buy an L-pipe on line at several vendors, or you can fabricate your own with just some mandrel bent pipe or a 90* coupler and a straight pipe.

i just did this swap, and it looks like your going to pull the oil feed line from the head??? i didnt see that you bought a ss line, i didnt either, but you will need 2 crush washers and a banjo bolt for that feed line off the head...umm....thats all i can think of, maybe gaskets for the oil return line and j-pipe, o2 housing, turbo to manifold...i replaced these also, im not really sure if its necessary or not, some get away without replacing the exhaust gaskets..
