hey everybody....
im a newbie so ill try and make this work.. i have a 95 gst and a buddy of mine offered me a free 14b that needs a rebuild.. is it worth it to get it rebuilt and go buy the install kit or just wait and do something bigger and better.. im kinda broke due to the fact that im a 17 yr old and only work 12 hrs a wk :thumbdown :thumbdown .. also, where can you buy the rebuild kit and get it balanced.. thanks everyone :)

There should be some kind of shop that will do the balancing for you, theres always a turbo place somewhere close by (usually its a diesel shop).
The rebuild kit will cost about $100, given the shaft isn't bent and that all of the wheels are damage free. Expect $50 for balancing. If you can DIY, $150 aint bad. Go 4 it.

Or get one off Ebay for about 100 bucks or less. Thats what I did but you will probably outgrow that 14b pretty quick well I did at least. I have one here that is in great shape but its already sold got 50 bucks for it.

The 14b is a good bang for the buck. You might want to check and see what it costs to rebuild one is, before you get it from him. You can pick up a used one with no shaft play for cheap....under 200 buck. I'm in the same boat as you....money wise. So when my t-25 went out on my 97 tsi, I got a 14b and love it compared to the t-25. It seems to pull harder then a stock 2g turbo and doesn't run out of boost. Just make sure you get it ported if you decide to go that route. Also port your manifold if you decide to change turbos. Those are the only things I wish I would of done when I switched turbos. So yes the 14b is a good upgrade. I checked and people have ran in the 12sec with a 14b turbo.

Just my .02

I went 13.7 with a t-25...I bolted up a 14b and went 13.1. No other mods. You can pick them up for around $100 and you can install them for around $40. You just need an oil feed oline and you need to grind out part of the il return line.
