I got kicked of my moms insurance so the car i was driving while i was working on my 97 GST is gettin taken away (2002 Taurus) because of my insurance it`s a long story. But by july 30 i have to have my own insurance and as of rite now i have $1300 saved up. I planned on getting a 6 bolt 4g63t but i`m not sure how much it`s gonna cost me. I got a price of $1300 just for the motor. Does anyone know how much the whole swap will cost me? or would it just be cheaper to just get a 2nd gen 4g63t since i would only need a short block? thanks

i bought the car with the head off and the block remains, but the guy wasn`t sure what he did to the motor. thats why i was goin for the 6 bolt but at this point i need toi have somethin to drive

if i were you, i would check the oil pan for metal pieces that would indicate a worn bearing, and check the thrust bearing for wear and measure crankshaft endplay, if both checks turn out okay, i would simply put another head on it. If your not real knowledgeable about the subject, have someone check the bottom end out for you. You very well could have that car running for much less than a whole 6bolt swap would cost you. New heads arent that expensive, make sure its broken before you fix it!

thats true...but i do know the kid who had it beat the shit outta of it just by looking at the turbo... but which engine swap do u think would be cheaper?

Well of course the old turbo will look like crap, because it's old! Add that to your shopping list! $650/shipped EVO3 Turbo.

Neither engine swap will be cheap (unless you do it all yourself). You are looking at about $3000-$400 with labor. Also remember, when you buy a used engine, it usually needs the timing belt done.

I say try to just do the head, as suggested above. Could you do that yourself?

And this engine you have currently, when is the last time the timing belt was done? Also remember: tensioner, balance shaft belt, and the 3 pulleys. Oh yeah, and the water pump! That's $400 in parts right there.

Actually, you might consider getting a different daily driver.

Find a car for about $1000. Or take the bus and save some more money.

The price is the same on the engines, in fact some places charge more for the 7 bolt then the 6 bolt engines.

i have a friend whos a tech and he`s gonna do the swap for me... so theres no problem wit labor....i thought if i wanted to do the 6 bolt swap i would also need a 6 bolt clutch....but wouldn`t a 7 bolt motor be cheaper than the U.S. 6 bolt?

i just so happen to have a 6bolt for sale if you are interested. I am trying to sell it for $650. It has good compression with some lifter tap every now and then. Really it is in good shape. This is a turbo engine, (4g63), but it does not come with the turbo. You can email me at [email protected] if you are interested. Also, this does not include shipping. This how much i bought the motor for, so this is the lowest i will take. Just trying to break even. Thanks

Well if I was gonna buy an engine from someone i have never met, across country, I would be wary of someone using a free email address (no contact info on file with the ISP if you get ripped), and who has been on the board less then a month.

It's really none of my business, but you are not supposed to post for sale ads on here.

And I have heard of many DSM people getting ripped off. It happened to me once as well, but I used PayPal, and I ended up getting my money back.

I usually try to get contact information that I can confirm: Phone number, address.

Never buy from someone using a free email address. If they are using AOL, Comcast, or other paid service, then the FBI or police can contact the ISP and find out who the person is.

And only buy using paypal, and only buy from someone that is a VERIFIED paypal member, with many transactions (although when I got scammed, the person did have verified pp account, with many transactions, I think he just did a bunch of really small transactions to build up his rep, possibly as a buyer, or sending money to his other pp account). He was using free email, however.

NO

And what is YOUR ASSUMPTION based on? Older engines are more expensive? :tease:

I am not trying to rip anyone off. And sorry about posting the for sale ad here. I simply saw someone who made need something i have thats all. I do have a verified paypal account, and i also have a email adress that is not free. I just dont check that one that often. And i dont have any contact info up yet, because like you said, i have not been a member that long.

I've done plently of 1g in 2g swaps, go with a 6 bolt trust me, it pays off in the long run. If you need help with it theres a tech article on this board that sums everything up. IF you need more help just post here.
