12.3 volt while running on new battery...alternator going?

I did some research around here and the google god, seems that most sites are saying a battery sitting in the car should put out appx 14.2 volts. Brand new battery because the last one was trash. New battery is 12.5v sitting not running. Running is appx 12.42, with headlights it drops to the 11.9's. (wish i was talking about freakin drag times and not volts LOL.)

Tested alternator using the 2 minute alternator check, but it doesnt list the volts. Alternator is giving me 12.42 volts in the tests (exactly as the same as the battery.

Am I good to go or is 12.5 too low? Don't want to go stranded on a dead dsm alternator (done that).

Yeah, I wouldnt' trust that alt much farther. Is your PS pump leaking oil all over it? Another option is you could take it out (real easy to do) and take it to Autozone/OReillys/etc and let them run their diagnostics on it.

But yea, you should be getting 14V+ while cruising.
 
Whats the resistance from battery ground pole to intake manifold/alternator case?

Not sure, can you break down how to test that?

I retested the battery after I sat there with a cold axe in my hand, and the battery while running at idle is between 13.9 and 14.3 so I think the alt is good. Now just gotta find out where the "i wanna not boost and die at stops" is coming from
