New Alternator only making .5 volt!

I put in a new Alt about 3 days ago and it seemed to work fine but now my car keeps dying. I unhooked the battery from the alt and ran the car and the voltmeter barely hit .5 volts on the alternator output. The belt is tight and has grip, is there something that i'm overlooking or is this just a bunk alternator?

Was your battery fully charged when you put the new alternator in? Can't you mess up the alternator by starting it if you battery has very low volatage output/dead. Thats' what it says on the box of the alternator.

Check your alternator FUSE before you do anything, I beleive its 100A or something like that. My blew before and my brandnew alternator wasn't charging anymore. I replaced it and wala!! It was working like a beauty.

^^^ Yeah, the 100A fusible link is a good place to start.

Also, try measuring the voltage from a grounding point on the chassis and the alternator positive output plug to see if you're getting juice that way.

Yes...

Is the plug on the rear plugged in? The plug is there to engage the alternator. If the wires are messed up or disconnected, the alternator won't charge.

I got it working by cleaning all the wire connections. The plug had some cfine corrosion that I did not notice right away. Thanks for the help guys!

Sounds like your new alternator took a crap on you. was it a new factory alternator or just a remand' one from an auto parts store? I had almost the same problem a while back. Take a look at my thread. Hope this helps. Oh BTW, the big fuse is only an 80amp fuse not 100amp.
