I have it. Got it in my TRE trans. Whats not to like about it?

Nope, Hell better MPG (dont ask been so long since I ran through a tank of fuel) and the only time you use it is on the highway.

What's even the point of a taller gear? Higher speed?

Better MPG...

I dont remember because its been so long since I drove the car.

whats 55mph RPM's now? take 10% off of that. Its nothing huge but it doesn't hurt.

Would be nice.

My car runs around 3000rpm at 70mph. I drive close to 500 miles a week, so mpg improvement would be nice. Been getting right around 25mpg right now.

25mpg is pretty good. I'm sure you could tune out whatever mpg gain you would get from switching the 5th gear. Don't know if it's worth the 300rpms either. If your tranny is worn and you are going to rebuild it, than i'd go for it. But i wouldn't tear it apart if it isn't broke.

Well, about the higher top speed thing. I did some looking and and I HEARD the factory transmission tops out at 186. I probably heard wrong though. And since it seems people in the thread are just adding 10% or in the case of RPM's subtracting 10% I don't see why it wouldn't work on speed too.. Although I'm most likely wrong since I know nothing about transmissions the 10% taller 5th gear should top out at 204.6. Which sounds really unrealistic LOL.

:hmm: But it's not like a lot of our cars have the power to get to 186. To be honest, 204 sounds realistic, it's just having the power to reach 204 is unrealistic. Understand where I'm coming from? It could go either way...

Yeah, I understand you. I'm just saying the whole add and subtract 10% sounds unrealistic. I doubt transmission are that simple.. but what do I know :D

Oh yea I see what you mean. We'll have to wait and see if someone else can post in this thread with a legit answer!

All you do is pull the cover and replace the first two gears you see, so it's not really tearing apart the tranny. Basically: Drain oil, pull cover, remove 2 nuts and slide the 2 gears off, slide 2 gears on, replace 2 nuts, replace cover, put oil in. Could be done in an hour even if you don't know what you're doing.

correct .but these numbers are at 8,000 RPM

Where do I order?

lots of places. teamrip.com / sheptrans.com .and alot of other people. and they also have diffrent ratios for diffrent gears.

my transmission from TRE has a 11% taller first, oem 2nd ratio,3-4 are lower to keep the rpm's up,and a 10% taller 5th

also a billet 4 spider center diff .helicoil lsd front diff, dual sycros 1-5. diffrent shift forks.thrush bearing.cryo treatment every thing.and everything else. all is new even case

I have the 10% taller fifth gear in my car and I really like it. Before the taller 5th gear I would go 60 mph at 2500 rpm and now I go 75 mph at 2500 rpm. It has also made a significant improvement in my fuel economy. Before the upgrade I would get 29 mpg and now I get 36 mpg(strictly highway).

Jacks Transmissions does the evo3 1st and 5th gears, and has a small write up on it. Also gives the specs of the top speed/rpm of each gear.
