1 prothane motor mount

do you guys think it would be bad to install just 1 prothane mount, and have the rest be oem? i just put th motor back in, so i dont feel like installing the rest of them.. the upper timing belt side motor mount.... prothane alright?

I just replaced the engine side and transmission side with Poly's on my current 92 Tsi, I left the front and rear mounts OEM rubber. About in 2007 on my 90 Tsi I replaced all 4 mounts with Poly's and it shook the whole dam car at idle, it even shook the dash something insane like. I vowed never again to do that. It would not be a bad idea to do both sides Poly, so that way atleast your chances of torque steer would be less likely, just my opinion.

Just busting balls. soak them for a day or so, they'll break free

I pb blasted them a few times, for a few days..No budge with fresh battery in impact.

hmm. Get some sheet metal to cover your belts and what not and torch it. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, map gas will do it. Heat it for a min then break it loose.

O, and forget the impact gun. They work great for some things but you'll get more torque with a half inch breaker bar.

Or get a better impact gun . My 1/2" ingersoll rand air impact breaks everything loose. Not a fan of electric impacts personally. Although I do own a corded 1/2" that does good when I don't have an air compressor nearby.

An electric impact gun is not going to be able to break motor mount bolts loose. The best way to do it would be use a 1/2" wrench with a big pipe over it or use an air impact gun with torquing capabilities of at least 750-800 ft/lbs. Either way will be able to break the bolts loose you just need the torque.

I just did motor mounts on a pt cruiser (side job) needed nothing but my gearwenches.

True.. I should have worded it different. I wasn't trying to say you can't do it without air tools. I was just trying to say clearly his motor mount bolts are not coming off very easily so the methods I said should work for him. Definitely possibly with hand tools. I was just saying that an electric impact gun probably isn't the best way since it doesn't have high torquing capabilities like an air impact or large wrench would.

An air impact would be the best bet. Second would be a big 1/2" breaker bar.

Yea idk I did all my motor mounts with an Auto Zone Impact wrench, it helped saved alot of time and frustration with those silly angles,nuts,bots etc etc. Not to mention if your really in a money crunch you could always go to home depot get a good impact wrench, and after using it, clean it off and return it back. They have a 90day return policy sooo .....
